Ok moms...

I am looking for words of advice or encouragement. My son is 9 months old and has only sttn a few times and most recently he gave us a nice two week stretch of every night. We are back to waking up. We have tried everything. CIO, put him in his crib while he is awake to go to sleep, soothe him without picking up, soothe him picking up, putting him to sleep later etc. etc. etc. He has a very good routine during day and nighttime routine. BUT HE WON'T SLEEP THROUGH NIGHT, yes caps because I am so so sleepy. Anyone have this? Is my son just the type of kid that won't do it? Chat Icon

my DD didnt sttn until she was 14 months old. We tried everything, I did a ton of research, etc. Finally my ped just said to me that she will do it when she's ready and that it is actually more common to take up to a year to fully sttn then people may think.

Ok moms...

Don't feel bad. some kids just don't. My 4 year old hasn't slept a full night in more than 2 years. My 18 month old STTN for about 2 months. then she figured out how to climb out of her bed and she wakes once or twice a night now. It's frustrating but I just keep telling myself it won't last forever. I have to get up two or three times every single night.

DD didn't sttn with any consistency until recently at 16 months. She slept great around 2-3 months, then didn't sttn again until she turned one and that lasted a week. Around 15 months it all went terribly downhill (before that I could quickly nurse her back to sleep). I did CIO at that point, not going in at all, and it worked great.

Re: Ok moms...

Yes my DD didnt sleep until she was about 10 or 11 months. I want to say that it will get better but every kid is different. Eventually she started to get better. We put her down around 8pm with the same routine each night I also went up a size in nightime diapers in case that was what was waking her up. Really originally what I think it was is that I BF her every 2-3 hours and she was wanting the cuddle time.

I have to say now @ 15 mo she does sometimes wake and wants to be with mommy but I can put her back down. If I leave she starts to cry but its not for more than 1 or 2 min.
Its tough i know Chat Icon I didnt think I was ever going to sleep. Hang in there. Hoping it gets better for you too.

Re: Ok moms...

You're not alone! My DD is 9.5mo and hasn't sttn once. We've also tried everything, to no avail. DH and I just keep saying, "it's just a phase, she will eventually do it," because we just need that hope.

DD is BF and I have a low supply, so I do feel like that could be contributing to her waking up, but I'm afraid to wean her overnight for fear that I will dry up completely. I'm hoping to make it to 1yr BF, but I'm so exhausted I'm starting to think I might give up early.

So basically, I have no words of wisdom for you, but just hugs, I feel your pain! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My oldest didn't sttn until 17 months and my youngest who is 15 months still doesn't sttn! We did it all too. At 17 months we did hard core CIO took 3 days but than she slept. We plan on doing it again with my youngest just don't know when since my girls share a room.

So if they wake, what do you do? Do you go in an feed them? Do they go to sleep back on their own? Do they scream?

Re: Ok moms...

DD is almost 2 and a half and maybe STTN 1 a month if we are lucky. Lately she has been walking up at least 2 times a night...She falls asleep fine but wakes up around 2am and then 5am...and she screams for me so i have to go check on her...I know one day she'll start sleeping through the night but no clue how to get to that point. Just know you are not alone.

It seems when you aren't sleeping everyone else is!!! It's not the case.

DS 1 didn't STTN well until after DS 2 was born (who ever dealt with the baby got a better night sleep LOL). DS 2 didn't consistently until we did CIO around 10 months.

Is DS teething - that could be waking him up.

One of my twins was up every.single.night for years! Finally I said to him, if you wake up, you don't have to cry or call Mommy. You are a big boy. Go potty, turn over, fix your blanket etc. Try not to call Mommy at night unless you really need me! And he doesn't call me anymore!

To the OP. My son soke up every night until he was 10 mos. I did CIO and he STTN by day 3

Re: Ok moms...

I'm having this issue with my 6 month old. I took video of the crying episodes bc cio doesn't work, it just escalates and I'm afraid he'll hurt himself.

Well he has 6 already. I don't see anything in there but, he could be. He's been drooling a bit more and eating his hand. I mean, he eats everything anyway so it's hard to tell ! Chat Icon

OMG you are not alone! One of my twins has sttn from about 5 months but the other one wakes up 1-2 times a night! And to avoid her waking her sister I don't let her CIO.

I have tried making sure she isn't hungry, changed diapers, etc and she still wakes up.

Re: Ok moms...

My 23 month old rarely does, but truthfully I rarely do either. So, it is what it is... We've never done CIO, so not sure if it would work, but it's not for us.

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time. I know it will get better... Wish I had some advice but I actually got lucky in the night time sleep department so can't offer too many tips. Hope it's just a passing phase!

This was EXACTLY us too. DD was 16.5 months old before STTN. It was torture, but we did everything under the sun and it wasn't until we did CIO for like the 3rd or 4th time that she finally slept through. It sucks. Our ped said the same- just that different kids take different lengths of times to get there. It just seemed like everybody else in the world had kids who slept through at like 6 weeks. lol

Hang in there Chat Icon

My DS will be 9 months in a few days and he sttn the last 2 nights. So the last 8.5 months I've been exhausted!! You'te not alone :) I don't know how long this will last. I BF so when he gets up I nurse him and he falls right back to sleep. Fortunately I don't have to deal with a baby that is up all night.
