you get invited.... they get a gift.

This is what we do. Its how I was raised.

That's how I was raised too...hence why I am so sensitive to this subject.

I was raised this way too, but I didn't go to NEARLY as many parties as I see my niece and nephew do. When I was a kid, only your friends were invited, not the whole class. The parties were smaller and I went to maybe once a month if that many.

My DS is not at the age of many parties yet, but I think when we get to that phase, we will only give for the parties we go to (unless it is someone close to us.)

Unless it is a close friend (of mine or DS') we don't send a gift to something that we can't attend.

Same here! Family I always send a gift though.

Yeah, same.

Nope, no gifts , never give them unless we attend. Other than close family members.

If you can't make it and it's not a very close friend you see a lot or family memeber then you don't have to get a gift. Not necessary

If someone doesn't come to my kid's parties, I wouldn't expect a gift.

However, I have sent gifts to her close friends even if we couldn't attend.
