I need to get her some new toys, but I am a little concerned. Since Fisher Price and Matel make so many toys, what's a mom to do?

She has plenty of stuffed animals so I am not looking for something like that.

Personally, I'd feel safe with Fisher Price -- they are obviously checking all of their toys well now!

Just monitor the recall sites, and if anything looks like it would be potentially unsafe, don't get it. There is no such thing as a totally safe toy company. That's why everyone has recalls. Everyone does their best to make safe things, but sometimes kids find interesting ways of hurting themselves, or suppliers that have been trustworthy for years give a bad batch of something to the manufacturer. Even "Made in the USA" products can be unsafe.

At least by buying from the bigger companies, there are more watchdogs, monitor agencies are over them more often, they have more internal testing, and if something happens, it's all over the media immediately.

I think you should be ok with buying toys now... Also, is Jordana still putting everything in her mouth? Syd still does but it's getting less and less so I'm not as concerned...
