OK to start table food with no teeth?

What should I start with for DD? She's currently eating cereal and stage 2 foods.

She has NO teeth, so I'm wondering how to go about this......

Re: OK to start table food with no teeth?

ds is a very big gagger and just got his first teeth at 9 months AND has an egg allergy so what i give him is limited.
but i think it's ok to offer most foods that can be gummed. i test foods by seeing if they mash easily with using only my lips (simulating gumsChat Icon ) and tongue.

we've tried:

avocado
white american cheese (balled up like peas)
cubes of sweet potato
puffs
saltless saltine crackers
mashed potatoes
banana cubes

other people do:

waffles
pancakes
toast
pastina
ground beef

Thank you for this post & the list. DS has the beginnings of one tooth, but so far has choked on Pastina and zweiback cookies. I am so afraid to give him anything elseChat Icon

BTW he eats yogurt...not sure if that is considered a "solid" food.

We did. DD just gummed everything. She didn't get teeth until after her 1st birthday.

we tried mushed egg yoke when the dr. gave the ok at 6 months but ds's face broke out in a red blitchy rash. he took benedryl and thank God was ok. i hope it was a fluke or he grows out of it b/c everything has egg in it!Chat Icon

At 10 months and no teeth, my dd eats just about everything we do (she totally rejected baby food about a month ago) except fish and eggs...she loves chicken nuggets, sweet potato fries, peas, carrots, green beans, pasta...

Gums are much harder than lips, so DC can eat just about anything you can squish with your fingers. I would skip the whole peanuts..... Chat Icon Chat Icon Start off very soft, just to get them used to it, but don't be afraid of firmer foods. You'd be amazed at what they can handle.
