Okay, china question

My china pattern is retired, and I got 8 place settings for the wedding, but I haven't gotten any accessories (platter, cream/sugar containers). Plus, I was thinking that 12 place settings would be nice to have a big dinner or if any break. Do you think I should go out and buy the rest, or do you think 8 is enough to have?

Funny you should ask that...my pattern is retired also and I'm not sure if I should continue using it (it's "everyday" china) or store it so it doesn't get broken up and buy something cheap for everyday.

In answer to your question....get the 12 piece...I have eight and it's not enough for a dinner party. You still have to get all the accessories also.

What accessories do you think are essential. I'm thinking

Platter
Sugar
Creamer
Gravy boat

but soup bowls aren't necessary I don't think... Well, I know what I want for Christmas! Chat Icon

Re: Okay, china question

My pattern was retired too. Thankfully I have 12 place setting and received all my accessories for gifts at my shower.

I suggest not waiting for Christmas to buy it. If you want it, tell whoever is going to buy it for you to get it now otherwise you may not be able to get it. I just bought my soup bowls from Lenox and I wanted the accent plates, but couldn't get them because they weren't being made anymore.

Don't know if you want to add a vegetable bowl or two to your order as well.

Re: Okay, china question

That's a good point. I'll start on that now, and order a few things for myself with my own money as well.

Re: Okay, china question

I second getting two vegetable bowls, they really come in handy, also the platter and cream and sugar. I would also upgrade to 12 place settings.

I was thinking either 12 or 14 settings. What do you think?

I would compromise and get 10 place settings. that's what we got. I thought 8 might not be enough if something breaks, but I think 12 is too many.

def get the other pieces if you can. we have a gravy boat, sugar bowl, creamer, vegetable bowl and a big platter.

ITA! if you ever saw "Sleepless in Seattle" when meg ryan is shopping for china at Tiffany's and they go "8 is too few and 12 is too many"...i always remembered that and kept it in mind when i was registering! so we got 10 sets of our china pattern.

luckily, we got all the accessories as gifts at my shower.

I have 10 settings and it's been enough. Don't forget to check Ebay for accessories. I completed my Christmas china that way
