okay, I am so bad at this... help please!
I weigh 141 lbs, and I want to lose 20 lbs
I do the couch to 5k runs 2-3 times a week (I'm on week 3)
I am trying to only have 1200 calories a day but I'm usually at 1300. Is this too much, or too little?
I have been losing, but very slowly. 0.5 lbs last week, and 1 lb the week before.
Is there anything else I should be doing?

The important thing to note is your are losing weight and congrats on that. I believe the slower it comes off, the slower it goes back on.
I am not very good with calorie consumption as I usually eat in moderation and do not track daily consumption, but I am a running nut.
With that being said, are you only working out 2-3 days a week or are you cross training on other days? I do not think 2 days of working out is enough to see big results. Ideally, I think you should shoot for a minimum of 4 days of working out.
Also - what is your height? 120 lbs seems very slim to me. (but then again I am 5-7)

I am 5'2", so I should be 120 or less.
I wrote this on NFR by accident originally and deleted. So I forgot to write this time that on M,W,F, I do some strength training with free weights. But really it is just my arms. So pushups, biceps, triceps, chest presses. It takes me maybe 15 mins in the morning. Other than that, no exercise other than the running. After mid July my schedule will become much more open to do more exercise.

Congratulations on the weight loss! That's how much you should be losing per week. I know it's frustrating and takes forever but any more weight loss per week and it's harder to maintain.
Keep it up and maybe drink green tea and eat smaller meals all day to speed up your metabolism. Have you cut out all non-water beverages? That helps cut out calories as well. Ooh, and eat more fiber. That helps a bunch.

Thanks! I only drink water. And I really think I get a ton of fiber. I love veggies. And all the fiber one products are great.
Smaller meals may help. I'm just eating 3 with no snacks. It's hard since i have 12 hour days on mon and wed.

1200 calories/day is really little, no? I went to a meeting of people who are into caloric restriction -- a pretty extreme diet/lifestyle by most standards -- and the women there were doing about 1300 calories (if I remember correctly).
The most important thing is that you ARE losing weight, and at a rate that should facilitate long term success. Plus, you're exercising more, so if nothing else you get to reap all the positive health benefits!

See, this is my problem. I don't know if I'm not losing weight because I'm eating too much, or if 1300 calories is too little and my body needs more calories.

Okay, so I just did a calorie calculator and it says I need 1800 calories per day to maintain my weight. So maybe I should be having 1500 calories a day instead? Maybe I'm having to little with the 1200?

When I was at the gym tonight I also thought of suggesting incorporating sprints/interval training into your workout. It keeps up your metabolism and burns more calories.

I am in the same situation as you, I am 140 and want to lose 20-25 lbs. My weight loss has been slow just as you. I am hoping that as my metabolism speeds up I will see a bigger change in weight loss.
I snack on fruit and have a couple of small meals a day. Like salad and only been eating chicken. I also try to not eat nay meals after 7:30 and only snack on stuff. They say its easier to burn off fat you have earlier in the day.

I think 1200 cal is low for an active person like yourself. Your body is prob holding on to every cal possible "survival" mode. How about weight training? the more muscle mass the more calories burned & replaces fat. There are fitness sites that can help you figure out how many calories you need for your lifestyle & help with weight loss.

I think you guys might be right about the calories. The past 2 days I ate a little more and wasn't so religious about counting calories (but still ate healthy) and I lost 1.5 lbs from when I weighed myself Monday!
I just hope this holiday weekend I can be fairly good so that when I come back I didn't gain it all back!!
