Okay Moms who successfully used CIO...
Can you please tell me what you did? I am not going to complain about Brady's sleeping habits because literally from day one he has been an excellent sleeper and now sleeps an average 10 hours a night. Lately we have been having a hard time putting him down to bed. We used to be able to put him down awake and turn on his aquarium and he would go to sleep. Now he screams when we put him down and will only go down sleeping. I do not want to get into the habit of putting him down sleeping everynight, either by nursing or rocking. If he does wake up in the middle of the night he will self-soothe himself back to sleep. He usually turns on the aquarium and goes back to sleep. I was thinking of letting him CIO when we put him down but was looking for advice. TIA

Re: Okay Moms who successfully used CIO...
We didn't do CIO till she was a year old, and I really wish now we had done it earlier.
I would give her her bedtime bottle, cuddle with her a few minutes and then lay her down in her crib drowsy. The first night she cried for about 20 minutes and fell asleep. The second night was a little less and so on. By the 4th night she barely made a sound and went right off to sleep.
I didn't go in there while she was crying like some people say to calm her down. I found if I went in there it just made her more upset.
HTH!

Re: Okay Moms who successfully used CIO...
We started CIO really early....she was a few months old. It worked for us....we put her down to sleep awake and she cried for 50 minutes straight and then fell asleep. We did not go in her room at all, but watched her on our video monitor so we knew she was ok. The second night she cried for 40 minutes and the third she didn't cry at all! IMO the secret to CIO is not going in the room at all....good luck!

CIO worked for us!! We did go in the room. After his bottle, i rocked him in glider and sang some songs...then i put him in awake. First nite and second nite were bad...by 3rd nite..HUGE improvement. We did go in though..we went in 1st nite..after 5 min...then 10..then kept increasing by five minutes. If you have any questions..just FM me!!

Re: Okay Moms who successfully used CIO...
We started using the Ferber method when DS was just a little bit older than 6 months. This is the version of CIO where you go in and check on the baby during certain time intervals.
It worked really well for us and after a dew nights, DS was putting himself to sleep. In fact, now... 5 months later... DS will look at me and smile when I put him in his crib after his bottle, stand up and wave good-bye to me before I walk out of the room!
I love Dr. Ferber!

I kind of did my own Ferber method.....i waited longer between each time, but if he was crying bad and I could only stay out 2 minutes thats what I did. He was 8 mos old. 1st night he cried about 30 minutes, next night 20 and the 3rd maybe a minute. It works if you are consistant, but you have to decide if its better for your child if you don't go in at all or if you go in to calm him/her. All babies are different
ETA: oh and make sure you have a routine. for us we change diaper, read 2 books, the 1st is whatever DS picks, the 2nd one is always the same and then I put on his lullaby music, give him lots of snuggles and I love you's, lay him in the crib say, sweet dreams and leave.

Re: Okay Moms who successfully used CIO...
We did CIO at a year. It worked for us and now I barely even rock her and I'm able to put her in the crib awake and she falls asleep on her own.
