Okay, My professor is insane...
I just back from my first session of my next class. Last class ended on last Saturday (same professor, this is my 3rd class with her) and this friday/sat class started today.
basically to give you the background i'm in an accelerated master's program at st john's university in TESOL -- Teaching English to Students of Other Languages -- basically ESL/Bilingual teacher. I already teach special ed 1st grade in Brooklyn.
The class I just finished and this one too is 3 weeks, friday from 5-8 and then the following saturday 9:30-3:30 back to back.
She send us all the syllabus prior to the class via e-mail and told us to buy the book and bring it to class.
So tonight she gave us our assignment for tomorrow -- it is to read the first 3 chapters of the book and she gave us graphic organizers on them that we have to bring to class FILLED OUT at 9:30 in the morning!!!
DUDE! I didn't even get home until 9:15!!! My head is KILLING me from lack of sleep and from working all day and all the stress related with the end of the year and everything else,
And I have to read 3 CHAPTERS by tomorrow morning?????
I want to crawl into my bed and just sleep and sleep and sleep!!!

Re: Okay, My professor is insane...
I guess I knew that we'd be covering the first 3 chapters this weekend but in the past 2 classes that I took with her we didn't really need to read the chapters in depth, we'd just skim them at home, to get a general idea of where everthing was in the books, and then we'd jigsaw it and then each group would turnkey.
i was just expecting that and not to be up all night reading! i am honestly going to say that i can't do it. i'm going to bed in about 15 -- i am exhausted!!

Re: Okay, My professor is insane...
Which campus are you on? I'm taking 2 summer classes this session in the Ed.D. program at SJU - one online, one in Queens. I feel like all I do is eat, sleep, and dream about my education classes these days. Good luck!!!

She should have given you the assignment and the graphic organizers when she sent you the syllabus - that way you would have had more than 12 hours to get the work done.
I agree 100%. I know it's an acccelerated grad class but come on you barely have enough time to drive home, change your clothes, sleep, shower, get dress and come to class again.
I once took a summer grad history seminar in June while still teaching and staying after for Regents review. It was a Tues, Thurs. In between she would assign about 300-400 pages. Not possible. I tried and got so sick the last week of school (missed the last 4 days) and had to drop the class.
She should have e-mailed them to you. I would write that on the evaluation at the end of the class.

Re: Okay, My professor is insane...
I am working on my Master of Library Science at SJU at Oakdale but this summer I am taking an online class. Well, the first week WebCT had problems, then we scrambled to catch up and now the prof is MIA for almost a week. No one has heard a peep and we all turned in our most recent assignment on Wed and don't have the next one yet. Someone heard that the prof is dealing with some family medical issue but we have not been formally informed of this. I hope she doesn't try to cram the next two assignments into the next two weeks (we only go until June 30th)
While some of you have too much school work, others of us paid for a class that we are not receiving. Ugh!

Re: Okay, My professor is insane...
Juliet, They didn't extend the online classes into July? Maybe that was just a school of ed policy, but I thought all online courses were given both summer sessions to complete.
I hope it works out!
