Okay, We're Starting Solids! Advice Needed!
We waited until (almost) 6 months to start solids. DS is getting very, very bored with his bottles and is very interested in our food. So I wanted to start him with cereal. We are trying rice first.
What time of day did you feed DC? I'm thinking earlier in the day is better than the evening when he's groggy. For now his doctor said to let him have the same amount of formula he used to have--she said not that much food will go into his mouth in all likelihood. Did you keep feeding DC the same number of bottles at the start?
Any other suggestions? Gosh, haven't even set up the highchair yet!

we started with rice cereal, 1 Tbsp in the mornings. Then I increased the amount in the mornings. When he got up to 2 /tbsp, I started giving him some in the late afternoon too (about 5 pm). Somewhere in there, we tried the other cereals. Once I knew he wasn't allergic to the cereals, I gave him a small amount of veggies or fruits with the afternoon feeding.
as the solids increased, I slowly decreased the formula. If you want more detail, I'll write later. DS is on my lap and is sick of the computer

Re: Okay, We're Starting Solids! Advice Needed!
we are starting this weekend.. my pediatrician gave me a feeding schedule. A tablespoon of the cereal for breakfast lunch and dinner for the first month and then a month later add in fruit, a month later add in vegetables, and a month later add in meats... good luck

We started once a day, only about a tablespoon the first day & then up to 2. We fed her at her 12 noon feeding. We kept her bottles the same until she was eating 3x a day.

Re: Okay, We're Starting Solids! Advice Needed!
We started with Oatmeal at pm, which she had a reaction to the next morning. My peds told me i should introduce new foods in the am, incase of reactions.
I didnt change her bottle amount, she let me know, when it was time, by leaving some in her bottle. Once i saw a consitance amt being left, then i knew to drop down the amount.
eta: we did 2 times a day, breakfast and dinner, 1 tbsp then increased.

Re: Okay, We're Starting Solids! Advice Needed!
Thanks for the info! My doctor told me 2 tbsp. to start, which seems like more than all of you suggested, but maybe because he's 6 months? I'll see how much he takes, but maybe I'll stick to 1 tbsp. the first day.
I forgot to ask her when to feed him, so thank you all for the info! It sounds like morning is best.
I'll see her soon for his 6 month appt., so we will go over it more then. I just feel like he is more than ready for solids at this point, and I keep seeing him eyeing our food with longing. Plus, much less interest in his bottle.

We started rice cereal in the evening. When we first started cereal we kept the same amount of bottles. As he starts eating more the bottles will change.
