I prefer white doors and mouldings although your mouldings appear to be in very good shape. I would paint, and see how they look with your paint color choices. If you still dont like them I would paint them white. A lot cheaper than replacing

They look glossy in the photos which makes me think painting them would not be the best option. I would replace with ready to paint white moldings and white panel doors.

Our house was similar, wood EVERYWHERE! The bathroom looked like a sauna and not in a good way! Thankfully DH is handy and the house had a wood burning stove, lol. Granted, 6 years later I'm still waiting for some of the moldings to be installed or painted!

Paint them white. I think they'll look fine if they are painted white.

no, the paint won't stick to varnish. it will end up peeling off the surface. You have to treat the varnish to remove it/give it texture, and then sand everything down so its smooth again. It's a HUGE pain in the asss. We had to do it to all the molding around doors/windows and baseboards on our entire 2nd floor and i literally got hand cramps from doing all that tight close up work for days. If you can pay someone to do it, i'd definitely go that way Chat Icon
Seems a shame to rip them out because they're in really good shape though

Moulding is SOOOO nice and really finishes off the doors/walls. I would personally replace them instead of ripping them out completely.

Ours was the same and the painter's repainted it all. i am not sure if they sanded it first or just used a certain type of paint that would make it stick, but they definitely just painted it.

This was the 'oak'

This is the repainted trim (they also repainted all the doors white I just don't have a pic handy Chat Icon)

There is a special primer you can buy that you can paint right over the glossy finish and then paint it the moulding color of choice. I wish I could remember the name of it. I know u can get it at Home Depot or any paint store.

I would paint them. Save the money.

Yeah, moulding is expensive so I wouldn't rip it out unless 10000% necessary. If you can paint them, totally do it!

Killz is the brand... they have a few different formulas. Its been a long time since I had to paint glossy mouldings but from what I can remember there is a formula for this.

I would go to a good paint store (I don't think most employees at HD are experts, sorry) like Aboffs and ask... the guys there really know their paint.

I couldn't imagine getting rid of all that molding even to just replace with other molding $$$$$. Paint will change the look so much you will be glad you didn't rip it all out.

The molding looks to be really good shape and solid wood doors are pricey so I vote to repaint. It would definitely be a lot more $$$ to replace.
