old wives tale

for the ladies out there that have had more than one baby, is there any truth to the first baby usually being the biggest and the babies getting smaller with each pregnancy? someone at work told me this because i am pg with my second, but my first was only 7 pounds 1 1/2 ounces so she wasn't that big to begin with.

I am not a BTDT mom but my mom's biggest was her 3rd and smallest was her 1st so that wives tale didn't hold true for her!

hmm...i too am not a BTDT mom, but with my sister, her second was smaller than her first.

BUT im one of 5...my biggest siblings were the 2 youngest ones...

I am the oldest of 2 and my brother and I were exactly the same size (he was maybe an inch longer). My girlfriend just had #2 and both of her sons were the same size as well. Another friend has 2 girls and they were not the same size... #1 was smaller than #2.

I've actually always heard it was the opposite...the babies get bigger as you have more of them. It held true for both my mom and my SIL.

Mine have all gotten bigger

1st 6 lbs 15 oz
2nd 7 lbs 1 oz
3rd 7 lbs 8 0z

I was my mothers 5th and final delivery and I was the heaviest at 9 pounds and 8 ounces.

My mom had six, and we all fluctuated in size. My SIL had five and they went from 10lbs down to 7 and change.

babies get bigger..subsequent children tend to be larger. Its not a wives tale or anything..your doctor will tell you the same thing.

Not a BTDT Mom but I have always heard that your first is your smallest and they get bigger from there. My sister was 7 something and I was 9 lb. 4 oz. at birth (I'm younger).

I cant speak for myself since this is my first child. However, in my family, I was the first and the smallest- my middle brother was bigger than me, and my baby brother was a really really big baby!

So, I dont think its true!

I am third of four and I was the biggest by at least a pound + The others were all in the same range of a few ounces.

My mom did tell me the births were progressively shorter, though. She said her youngest was almost born in the car on the way to the hospital.

My mother told me that each child gets bigger, within the same sex. For instance: Each boy will subsequently get bigger and each gril will too. It doesn't necessarily mean that if a girl is born 4th that she will be bigger than her brother that was born 3rd.
