We just bought a brand new CR-V. It's better on gas than I thought... but I'm glad we also kept the Civic! We don't have to drive the CR-V much at all. If gas goes up to $6 a gallon, we won't be driving much at all.
Luckily, we don't drive all that much. We walk to the train to commute to the city and weekdays don't do a terrible amount of driving.
But $6 a gallon - that'll hurt everyone!

Re: OMG, anyone see the business section of Newsday today?
this will hurt the economy significantly! the prices of everything goes up when gas goes up. especially food.
it's time for gas to be regulated by the Gov't!

Re: OMG, anyone see the business section of Newsday today?
The article said that prices were expected to level off until July when it will spike to $3.50-$4 per gallon. However, if a hurricane comes along and disrupts production, they would expect it to go from $5-$6 per gallon!
I think, honestly, everyone is already outraged, so I don't think that would stop anyone from raising prices. However, I would imagine we would go into a serious depression. I am so happy that I have a 4 cyl engine that gets 32 miles to the gallon, but it would cost $72 to fill my tank if it went up to $6 per gallon! I can not imagine anyone wanting to own an SUV, where the gas miles are not as good.
Another thing is that I don't see too many people's wages going up w/ the increased gas prices...I have been making the same hourly wage for 2 years. My employer can not afford to pay me more. The cost of living is skyrocketing, but the wages are pretty much the same.

Re: OMG, anyone see the business section of Newsday today?
Something will have to be done. Not only can people barely afford the $4/gallon we are up to now, but the nation's economy will be in a world of hurt. We all need gas in one way or another and if we have to we'll pull money out of one expense to pay the one for gas. It will have a trickle down affect that won't be good!!! All of the money that we use on entertainment, restaurants, etc. will have to go towards gas and the economy will suffer

Re: OMG, anyone see the business section of Newsday today?
NY could start by getting rid of the extra gas tax that we pay- and NJ doesn't pay
gas is at least .50 a gallon cheaper across the bridge

Re: OMG, anyone see the business section of Newsday today?
This is the same scare tactic that they do every spring. For the last several years at least, they've been saying similar things about $6/gal for gas. We've never even gotten close. It makes for sensational news, though, and makes people buy newspapers....
Yes, it will go up, like it does every summer, but I don't think it will go anywhere near what they "predict".

Re: OMG, anyone see the business section of Newsday today?
How about we start putting some $$ and effort into researching alternative energy sources. Not that I want my gas to go to $6/ gallon, but I would like to have another choice, and it is the ultimate solution. Gasoline is a nonrenewable resource. We keep using it and its running out. It is inevitable the prices go up.

I agree, but even if we do that, we would have years to go before that is put into place. I feel as though they really should have done that years ago. Not to say it's too late to start. I am just scared that we will already be in a huge mess before it can be fully implemented. The cars w/ the hydrogen cells would be great.

It depends where, in Central and South Jersey it's much cheaper. I live in Northern Jersey and honestly, I've seen the same gas prices here as I do on Long Island, give or take a couple of pennies.

It's going for around $5 per gal in my area I think the upcomming holiday weekend is playing some part in it. Hopefully it will come down slightly after then, but we also have Summer vacay's commng up.
