Can you do the rule, you take something out, you have to put something back?

I started having "lego hour"
those things were killing me. All over, hurting their feet on them.

I pack old toys up...they only play with certain select things anyway, the rest of it gets thrown and scattered.

They play so much better in less clutter.

Ugh - the toys are everywhere.

I try to put them all back two times throughout the day because otherwise it's total chaos around here.

Yesterday as I was cleaning up - I stepped on a damn lego - and fell forward - onto Jack - who fell onto the Jack in the Box he was carrying around. Good times! I was yelling "You have too many toys and I'm sick of it" -- poor kid was just staring at me like "can you get off of me please!" Chat Icon

This is how I did things with Chelsea when she was little and guess what, she's almost 12 and still does this. She's very organized.

I agree. I think this is the best way.
Since mine are older, I also threaten to "clean up" aka bring a garbage bag in their room. That works.

You could put her toys she didn't clean up on a high shelf in a time out too.

I feel like that is all I do is clean up all day after them. I just now do it at night when they go to bed, so I am NOT constantly doing it.

Totally have done the gargage bag trick. As soon as they see me walk in with the garbage bag they know they better get moving on clean up. I put 1 or 2 things in the bag and tell them I willtake it out as soon as they start to clean up. This is always my last resort but they are getting much better now.

Re: OMG!! How do I make cleaning up easier

My MIL told me about what she used to do with DH and his brother.

She would give them one warning to pick up their toys and if they didn't, she came into the room with a dustpan and broom, swept up all the toys and put them in the trash. Taught them a lesson pretty quick Chat Icon

Re: OMG!! How do I make cleaning up easier

I rotate her toys. Her room is so small so I have to do it that way. We have a playroom that she can't yet get to by herself since it is downstairs all by itself. So I keep all of her toys downstairs except for a few things. One week babies and all the stuff that goes with it, the next week legos, lincoln logs, etc... Sometimes its day by day sometimes week by week. Just depends if I feel she is getting bored. Her play kitchen and food is probably the only thing that has stayed in her room.
