OMG...my son just won an art contest! UPDATE (long) 1/08/08 ***UPDATED WITH PICS- 2/13/08
I just got a call from my son's school.
Unbeknownst to me, in Nicholas' Kindergarten art class, they were told to draw a picture of how they can be a helpful citizen of Long Island.
My son drew a picture of himself helping "an old man" cross the street.  
Well, apparently, his picture was selected as the "winner" and he will represent K-3 for his school!
Next step is that he will compete against the district, then the region, then the state!  
I was told that there will be an assembly for him at the end of February where he will be awarded a trophy, a ribbon and a gift card to Barnes and Noble. If he wins State, we will find out at the end of the school year.
I am so proud of my little man!
Guess he has mom's knack for crafts!

UPDATE- 1/08/08:
First...thanks everyone for all the  and . Nicholas is ABSOLUTELY BEAMING!!! It is so adorable and we are so proud of him.
But...the mommy in me got a little nervous last night. Here's why:
When I received the phone call yesterday that Nicholas had won the contest, we were (of course) so excited. Then the woman told me she was outside my door and I needed to sign a waiver so his piece can go to the district (the next step in the contest). I signed it.
Later on that night I got worried. I thought it was so weird that the woman would come to my house and why would I have to sign a waiver? There wasn't any personal info on the picture...just his drawing. Now I was worried as to what this woman was going to do with my signature and with Nicholas' name! 
Had THE most restless night EVER!
Well...this morning I went right to his school, with Nicholas, and asked about a BILLION questions.
Turns out it is totally legit, his piece was the ONLY piece selected for ALL grades K-3, and he already won a trophy that will be presented at a future PTA meeting!
Then he will go on to compete for the district, then region, then state. 
Plus they said it is a HUGE deal and SUCH an accomplishment and that RARELY is a Kindergartner's work ever declared the winner for the school.
Only sad thing is that I won't get to see this piece until all the contests are over- which if he makes it- won't be until the end of the school year.  But as soon as I see it, you KNOW I am posting a picture of it!
So again...thanks so much!!! I will tell Nicholas that all the LIF moms said, "Way to go!!".

UPDATE- 2/13/08:
Well, today was the assembly. Nicholas was absolutely beaming when the principal called his name. My husband, my little guy Joey, my parents and myself all went to watch Nicholas get his award.
He won a pin and a gift card to Barnes and Noble. He was so proud, and so were we. Of course, I got all misted up. 
We took so many pics of him with his principal and teacher, but here is my DH and myself with our award winner:

I wish I had it. In fact...I wish I even SAW it!
He made it in school. His art teacher recommended it and it was judged at a different school. He won for the school, so now the drawing goes onto the next stage- the district. Hopefully when the contest is over, it will be returned to him.
I HAVE to see this drawing. I always love how he draws. It's so cute.
Thanks everyone for the accolades. I'll be sure to pass them on to Nicholas. He is absolutely beaming!
