On a roll today....Anyone else wish that maternity leave STARTED when the babies were 3 months old??
Sometimes I wish mat leave started at the 3 month mark. They are so much more fun now and start doing stuff!

Yes, I wish it even more now that she is almost 10 months old...she's so much easier now...not as many bottles to wash either, lol

I know what you mean... I just wish maternity leave lasted at LEAST 6 months, but ideally 1-2 years. And paid at that.
Oh, to dream...
I find it harder to leave DS everyday now - he's SO much more alert and "fun"

I liked having maternity leave in the beginning because the kids just didn't STTN-but by the time I went back to work, they got with the program.
However, 6 months would be better!

I totally agree. AJ will be 3.5 months when I go back and I am because he is just starting to do all those cool things and now I am going to miss them.

I totally agree - although I would have never been able to function the first 3 months working with no sleep
I remember going back to work when my DD was 16 weeks and it was so hard because we really started interacting and bonding more. I also took 4 months with my DS. I wish they gave us at least 6 months at home!!
That reason is one of the many I decided to quit and go part time. I was very fortunate to be able to do that.

Yes, I said the same thing to DH!
I loved the newborn stage with Luca, but with Izzie I was so stressed taking care of two that I almost couldn't wait to go back to work

I think you just start breathing again at 3 month PP. When they start their little routine. Then it's time for work!

Yes!! I went back to work after a 4.5 month maternity leave which I appreciated so much, but I honestly felt at times that it was harder to go back then and not earlier because he was a lot of fun at that point!!

Cant it though? Cant you take FMLA 12 weeks during a one year period? It doesnt have to be immediately following the birth, even though it usually is, righT?

In theory yes but can you imagine showing up to work the day after you gave birth Not to mention that no doctor would medically clear you to work so quickly, maybe 2 wks the soonest if you had an uncomplicated v-birth.

But do all 12 weeks have to run concurrently? I didnt think so, so couldnt in theory, you take 2 weeks to recover and then the other 10 later?
It never even occurred to me though to actually do this.

At my job you don't have to be medically cleared to return to work (I don't get disability) so I could have gone back if I wanted, there was nothing stopping me except my sore hoo-ha

Yes, absolutely.
I took 10 weeks and 4 days, and just took my last 6 days (they kind of don't count weekends) last week, Iz is 4.5 months old.

I really wish it had started at 3 months. He sleeps through the night, he giggles, so much more interactive. I spent the first month and half of his life worried I'd break him...now we're out and about more. Some days I sit here feeling like I'm missing the good stuff.

I wish maternity leave could have lasted 6 months & it was made into a law to give every parent that time. My cousin, who lives in another country gets 1.5 years! I am jealous.

Re: On a roll today....Anyone else wish that maternity leave STARTED when the babies were 3 months old??
so true! very cruel
I went back when DS was 16 weeks and I felt like it would have been easier to leave him when he was 8 weeks. at 16 weeks, I was devasted that I had to leave him after getting to know him for so long
I think one year would be ideal, I don't even care about the pay just give me my job back
