On days like the last few that we've had do you drive with all the windows up or down?

I'm all about letting the fresh air in, I'm not a fan of AC.

DH and I used to have an 85 Jeep CJ7 and when the weather warmed up like it is we would take the doors and top off. It's the BEST way to drive around.

Good times. Chat Icon

So what do you do?

Are you an AC Addict or Fresh Air Fiend?

I do that too! I love having the roof open- but then it gets too hot on days like this- so I blast the AC.
Such a waste of AC I think! LOL
But I never like the windows open- too windy for me!

Windows open until I could touch the steering wheel, then the windows went up and the A/C turned on.

My BIL showed me the article about this. I know it works better on the highway vs street driving so AC automatically goes on as soon as we hit the highway

If I can stand the heat, I will open the windows. If it is just unbearable the AC goes on.

It's true! (obviously I dont have the article) but if you think about it.. the aerodynamics of the car are completely changed when the windows are open and the car doesnt run as smoothly because there is a ton of "air friction" so it takes up alot more gas.

Re: On days like the last few that we've had do you drive with all the windows up or down?

I found this:

Consumer Reports' auto-test department reports that the air conditioner reduces your car's fuel efficiency by up to 10 percent. So to achieve maximum fuel efficiency, motorists should avoid using the air conditioner at speeds below 40 mph and travel with their windows down, explains Gabe Shenhar, senior auto test engineer at Consumer Report's auto-test department.
"But as your speed increases to 45 mph, or highway speeds," says Jason Toews, co-founder of GasBuddy.com, "wind drag becomes an issue. Driving with the windows down increases the drag on your vehicle, resulting in decreased fuel economy by up to 10 percent. Drive at speeds over 55 mph with windows down and you'll decrease fuel economy by up to 20 percent or greater."

Shenhar and Hampshire agree: It's all in your speed.

I hate the A/C but on the way TO work I will put it on because I don't want to arrive all sweaty. On the way home, even if it is over 100 degrees - I am trying to heat up after being frozen all day at work so I will just open the windows!

OMG I remember those!

On days like Monday and yesterday, the AC goes on. But days like today, I tend to leave the windows open. I'm not a huge fan of AC.

When I get out of work I open the windows to let the stuffy heat out, ride for a few minutes with the windows open then put the AC on and roll the windows up.
