On Jury Duty telephone standby- I got CHOSEN to serve
has anyone gone ? what happens? and how long does it take? TIA
edited post, I went this morning at 830 am, was called in at 1030 am, brought a book but made friends with the person next to me and we had a blast. the case seems easy too. Max 3 days they "think" so it ***** Im losing money but I have to say it seems pretty cool. I actually cant wait till next wed when I have to report to hear the case and see in "real" life how court cases are handled. Its a civil case.
thanks everyone for responding!!!!

I LOVED jury duty.
Bring a good book if you do end up going. Regardless, you will sit a good part of the day.

Re: On Jury Duty telephone standby and I have to go tomorrow
I have no clue what Im in for, thats why I said it, and I am missing work. Im an independant contractor so if I dont work I dont get paid, thats what I meant by waste, I had 8 patients scheduled for tomorrow I had to cancel. So if Im missing out on $$$ I would hope its not a waste of a day where I just sit there.

Re: On Jury Duty telephone standby and I have to go tomorrow
i sat there until 4:20. we started out with probably a couple hundred people, and there were about 15 people left with me... they called us into the room, and said that we didnt have to serve, adn that, eventhough we sat around all day, it counted as our time, and we were good for 6 years.
and i got to read my whole book

Re: On Jury Duty telephone standby and I have to go tomorrow
Good luck, I had to do this a year ago, and there were some weird people there when I went. Bring a good book and something to eat. I got out of it becuase I had a medical note, but when I got married and changed my name they sent me another questionnaire.... I had to show I served etc. What a pain in the ***!!!!!

Re: On Jury Duty telephone standby- I got CHOSEN to serve
I actually served on a jury for 4 weeks - it was a first degree murder case
It was definitely interesting, sad, and stressful. I would never want to do it again

You know what, the case is against King Kullen thats all the details they give you. they also gave some names of the witnesses to see if you know them. after I got picked I got the paper with the persons name that is suing and its the same last name of the parents I used to babysit for!!! Now I told them I am a past employee of king kullen too when I was in high school I was a bookkeeper, and the lawyers are from rockville centre. I cant wait for wed to come to see if in fact its the wantagh king kullen being sued by the people I babysat for! ahhhhhh the excitement!!!!

Wow! I served once and have to say it is interesting. I was on a case for I believe 5 days. Anyway, I wanted to say I am a bit surprised they chose you. Did you mention that you worked in KK or about the "family name"? I remember when I went they dismissed some people if they "knew" someone related or who worked at this particular place. I was just wondering.. I was just wondering

Yes I told them I worked for KK all through out high school they said so does this sway your decision in any way I said no . The family name isnt given to you until after you have been chosen and you are given your slip on your way out! I was surprised they picked me too, I thought for sure b/c I worked for them they would have dismissed me but they didnt.
edited to say I didnt put 2 and 2 together until a few hours ago that isnt that the name of the kids I babysat for when I was 12 and I looked it up and it is!!! but this could all be just a coincidence I guess I will find out wed and let them know if I know the plaintiff.
