Spinoff to jury duty
I live in suffolk and completed jury duty about two years ago. I just recently got another summons for jury duty, but this time in brooklyn. Although I was still covered under the two year jury duty exemption (whew), why did I receive one from brooklyn? I thought you only serve in the county you live in?

You can get called for Federal in Brooklyn I believe. Check what court it is.

I got called to Brooklyn once too. I called and said I could not possible drive in from East Hampton everyday nor could I afford to stay in a hotel. They put me right on the list for Suffolk County.

Re: Spinoff to jury duty
Brooklyn is the US District Court and I believe you can get called for this even if you have served locally recently. I don't think one has anything to do with the other.
District court does have locations in Brooklyn and somewhere in Suffolk (I think it might be Riverhead??? again, not sure) If you call, or wrtie, you might be able to get them to transfer your service to the Suffolk county location, if it is easier for you to get there - someone I work with was able to do that.

Luckily I read the fine print and you are excused if you've served in any kind of jury duty within the last 2 years. My only worry is when I received it, my 2 year exemption was expiring in 1 month (march). So by the time they receive it, they could just send it back to me and I'll have to serve.

Re: Spinoff to jury duty
If it is any consolation, I think the District Court is better with payment and travel reimbursement than city or county

Re: Spinoff to jury duty
I just finished and was told that I do not have to serve anywhere for another 6 years.
