On the train home from work tonight...
So I get on the subway & though it wasn't that crowded there were no seats...I'm 9 months pregnant & an officer in uniform (who I have to say was definitely intimidating-looking, big guy) happens to get on behind me, notices me & tells me "Let me get you a seat"... mostly women were sitting so he goes up to this one guy, early 20s, healthy looking & says loudly "would you give this lady a seat?" The guy gives him a stare & the cop says "you can see she's pregnant" and the guy glances at me, shakes his head, and goes "Nah, man" & goes back to looking at his phone!
The officer was definitely embarrassed but didn't say anything else to him & other people sitting didn't move a muscle. I thanked the officer (again, loudly so people would definitely hear), told him he was very kind, & other people are rude as hell because I hardly ever get offered a seat. 2 stops later the train comes to a popular stop so it somewhat cleared out & I sat down then (I ride it all the way to the end of the route).
On a normal day I'm disgusted by people's indifference & selfishness, but this was just beyond. I don't think I "deserve" a seat because I'm pregnant & I know it's not anybody else's issue but my own.... I still wish people were more sympathetic & caring for others though in little ways like this. I understand not everyone is well enough to stand for long periods for various reasons, but of all those people nobody even offered. Most days I have to stand. Common courtesy is not so common!!

People are disgusting.
Twice this week I had people take the pregnant/infant spot from me. Both times they were men, in their 40s/50s, obviously not pregnant, without an infant, let alone a kid.
I then take a farther spot and when I pass them give them a look as I carry my 21 month (who weighs 28lbs) AND I'm 7 months pregnant. A$$holes.

That's unbelievable. Even for the women. If I saw you when I wasn't this giant weeble wobble that I am, I would offer you my seat. As someone who has been pregnant, you know how uncomfortable it is. And to disrespect an officer like that? Seriously ridiculous.

Re: On the train home from work tonight...
Yeah, I take the 4-5 every morning and almost never get offered a seat - even at 33 weeks. Lots of people "sleeping". My biggest pet peeve though - is when someone is getting off the train and they offer me their seat...like they saw me standing there the whole time and then when they are getting off and don't need the seat anymore - they offer. Right, no good karma points for that, sorry.

Re: On the train home from work tonight...
That's a true dirtbag in plain English and there's soo many guys out there today that have absolutely no respect for women, they shouldn't have the honor of calling themselves men!! I'm sorry but this is such a pet peeve of mine! 2 weeks ago I had to go to L&D because I was in a lot of pain. Good SAMs waiting room is really small there's like 6 chairs so I walked in and there were 2 men and a young boy taking up 3 chairs and then 2 women eating McDonalds taking up the other 3 chairs and they were waiting for someone to give birth I guess. Do you think any of them offered up a chair to me? Who you can clearly tell is pregnant?!! Nope! The women behind the desk got so ticked off that she came around To the waiting room and told the guys to get up and let the "pregnant women sit" do u think they jumped? Nope! I was soooooo pissed that I said no really let them sit that's fine they clearly need it more than me! I am just so disgusted by people these days. If I saw a pregnant women standing I would absolutely offer up my chair, there's just certain things in life that your suppose to do!

I am sorry, but what makes this situation worse is the fact a PO asked someone to give up a seat and they didn't I think if a PO asked me I would. BUT many times I am more of a man than men because when I see a Sr person or preg lady I always give up my seat. I would have given my seat up for you:)

Re: On the train home from work tonight...
That was so nice iof that officer and how that dbag sat there and didn't feel like a piece of sh!t, I don't know. I'm sorry he was so rude! People just suck. Today, a friend and I went out to lunch at a small cafe. There were no booths open so we went to sit in the window on stools, both of us are pregnant. These 2 men who just say down got up and insisted we switch with them because it wasn't safe for us to climb onto the stools. It was really sweet. Unfortunately, this isn't the norm anymore.

Re: On the train home from work tonight...
This happened to my SIL when we took our girls to dance the other day. Its a very small waiting room, of ALL MOTHERS, the class is an hour long. My SIL is clearly very pregnant, 9 mos. All of the seats in the waiting room were taken. NOT ONE MOTHER offered her their seat. I was SO SO angry. I wanted to passive aggressively say something so they would all hear, but my SIL begged me not too, LOL.
I just couldnt believe it. A room full of MOTHERS, who have been there and NOT ONE offered.
I cannot fathom that, I would never do that. Ever.

People suck. That's all there is to it. I can't believe the rudeness. Sorry you had to deal with that.
It''s definitely an out for myself attitude while commuting in the city. I literally feel like I'm going to be trampled some days. Luckily, I only go two subway stops so it's quick but there are days I go to our other office and have to transfer at Times Square and take the shuttle to Grand Central and want to pull my hair out!!

Re: On the train home from work tonight...
I rode the subway during my first pregnancy and women were more likely to get up than men. Men were more likely to close their eyes and pretend to sleep after having definitely seen me and my big belly.
Now I only take the LIRR and people will push past me b/c I'm not walking fast enough for them. This morning a guy bumped into me, pretty hard. Then he dropped his phone. Oh well. He should not have body slammed me.

This is even worse then the train, your in L&D and you still don't let the pregnant woman sit? Dirtbags.
I posted about this on here, but I went to a baby CPR class at BRU. Men were sitting in the comfy rockers while pregnant women waited for the uncomfortable plastic chairs.
We live in an age where people are taught self entitlement instead of caring about others. My mom was in shock when no one gave up there subway seat for me at 8 months. She took the subway all he time pregnant and someone gave her a seat EVERY time. 1979 was a much nicer world,.

Although I have to say part of it is fear of insulting someone. My friend witnessed a guy offering his seat to a pregnant lady on the path, who then screamed at him that she wasn't pregnant. I'm sure he'll never offer again. But if you have a round 9 month belly it's pretty obvious your preggo and not fat.

That is a crazy story! I cannot believe he said no to the cop! But I'm also glad the cop let it go and didnt escalate the situation with the guy further. I feel like many guys that I know would be like "are you F'ing kidding me, GET UP"! which could have turned into a bad situation since clearly the guy has no respect for anyone. If he doesnt respect cops or pregnant women he doesnt respect anyone!

That's just crazy! People are just selfish..what riles me up is that many of these idiots paint a pretty picture of doing the right thing and all that jazz on social media but when presented the oppurtunity just blows it.
I feel terrible for the OP.. a small random act of kindness, or just showing someone you care will go a long way. I'm sorry you had to experience utter selfish behaviour in public when you are 9 months pregnant.

ZERO respect! that's what this is. like you said, you didn't NEED to sit, it's the point of showing common courtesy to someone. it's so sad.

Re: On the train home from work tonight...
People are so self-absorbed and selfish.
It's really sad and unfortunate because this new generation of entitled *ssholes will now raise their kids to be entitled *ssholes and it will just get worse.
Sorry you had to deal with that.
