One large island vs. two smaller islands
i just want to say I wish my kitchen was large enough for two islands! But i would just go with 1. I like the look of 2 but I think it's a trend that's gonna fade out

Re: One large island vs. two smaller islands
I’ve only seen super large kitchens on tvs with 2 islands where it worked. Unless you have an absolutely massive kitchen, I’d say 1 would look better and be more functional.

Not sure if I consider it massive. It will be 20x18 not including the walk in pantry.

I'd do one, but with the two different heights, e.g., the regular counter top height for the work space and then bar height for the seating area.

I wish my kitchen was large enough for one island.
As for my opinion, I like the one. Two becomes too much IMO and starts to look like a commercial kitchen.

Re: One large island vs. two smaller islands
I have an island very similar to #1. We entertain a lot so it works perfectly. I find the second to be a waste; honestly.

1. More room it work in a single space and then more of an open floor space.

1 island. 2 islands makes it look like Gordon Ramsay’s cooking show.

All of this. My kitchen is about the width of an island.
But, seriously...I say one island as well. It looks nicer and there's more walking room. I would be bumping into things all over the place with two.

If I had room, I would do 2. One for cooking and one for eating/hanging out.

Re: One large island vs. two smaller islands
I LOVE the look of the kitchen you posted with 2 islands but your kitchen would have to be huge to make that work and look as good. If it is that big though the I'd do two.
My kitchen is 17.5 x 20 including the dining area. If we eliminated the dining area and made it all kitchen, the 2 islands still wouldn't work IMO. We have 1 island that's 10 ft long and it gives me enough prep space and comfortably fits seating for 4.

I would do one massive island with two heights so you have a higher top for bar stools and hanging out and the lower area for prep and cooking.

Re: One large island vs. two smaller islands
I only knew one family whose kitchen is 60x40 and they have two islands where it works because the kitchen is inside of a mansion. In a regular home under 3500 sq feet, only one island is really proportional to the size of the house. The other family had a 10,000 sq foot home, with a ballroom.
