One of those TMI polls...

After reading that article about labor nurses...which I thought was great BTW...I wonder how many people do the enemas before going to the hospital. I know most people have said that poopin on the table wasn't a worry of theirs but for some of us it. I'm sure DURING labor I won't care but right now it freaks me out to think my boyfriend might see that. Especially after telling him that sometimes happens. I said it as a joke and said "that's bad huh"...his reply..."yeah that's bad" laughing.

I figured I would do it as a poll so people can be honest.

I said yes.

If it would stop me from poopin on the table. It's one of my greatest fears.

Me too. I've always had a thing for doing that...needs to be in my own bathroom and no one knowing i'm doing it...lol.

My ex could never understand why I was so poop shy and would always try to get in the bathroom while I was in there...to make fun of me...it used to make meChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was at a seminar at the hospital last night, and the nurse giving the lecture mentioned the enema. She said that besides alleviating the fear many women have about having a bowel movement on the table it helps delivery go smooth.

I look forward to pooping on the table.
I am way more afraid of an enema- I prefer natural log, not accidental diarreah all over the table.

But what if it wasn't done in time?

They relapse sometimes. I had to have one years ago, and I was peeing out of my asss all day.

I answered no, because I've already BTDT. I felt the same way you do with my first. However I went early and didn't exactly have the time. I didn't even know I did it. After when I asked DH he told me as he was embaressed and didn't want to talk about itChat Icon Honestly, if he can see a baby come out of my vajayjay. poop is the least of the problem. My SIL is a labor nurse and said it's part of the labor and it's routine, she can care less because it's a natural process. However, she said she WILL do the enima prior to going into labor. It also brings labor on... so why notChat Icon

Not to be gross, but when your body is preparing for delivery, you get a good cleaning. the day before I had the baby I pooped a lot. I had a csection, but I think my body knew i was going to have the baby.

Good point!

This IS my biggest fear. My DH laughs that I am so concerned about it. "If it happens it happens. They've seen it all."

But I care!!!!Chat Icon

I would never! I was worried about it, but it's really not a big deal. And by the time you get to the point of having to push you won't care anymore anyway!

I am not a fan of the butt water, nothing makes me feel worse, so personally no I would not have one.

I used to worry about poopin on the table, but now that dh has cleaned my puke and watched me throw up all over myself, I dont really think anything will gross this man out

yup, that's the issue, you don't know how long labor will last for you, so there's a chance you could be very uncomfortable with diarrhea during labor/pushing.

and trust me, you don't need ANY additional discomfort during labor Chat Icon

i've said this before, but there are SO many gross things that your significant other will see during labor... "bloody show" is more like bloody puddle of goop as labor progresses. and amniotic fluid isn't so great either.

and you may be put in all sorts of compromising positions while pushing - and if you've had an epi chances are your dh will have to help put you in them because you can't quite feel your legs...

bottom line - there's no modesty is giving birth. pooping is just the tip of the iceberg

My body did not "prepare" that way. In fact I dealt with major constipation all through my pregnany. I requested the enema and was sure glad I did. I completely admit to being grossed out and embarrassed over the thought of pooping on the table. I will ask for an enema next time around too.

I had never had an enema before and it wasn't as bad as I thought. I actually had one to give myself at home and just couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm glad I had the nurse do it.

I never really thought about doing this until I read that article yesterday. I would love to lessen the chance of poopin on the table but the thought of having diarhea during labor seems much much worse. I have plenty of time to think about it I guess...

Re: One of those TMI polls...

When I first thought about having a baby this worried me, but seriously this will be the least of my concerns. You LITERALLY push the baby out with the same muscles you use to go poop. What do you think is going to happen? Think about how many babies are born each day. If a nurse or doctor has a problem with this, then they've got bigger issues to deal with.
I had a friend where the doctor and nurses were yelling at her because she just wouldn't push on the table because of this. They finally gave her a c-section.
My DH likes to egg me on about this, and I'm having twins, twice the pushing, but I serously have no problem with it. I do know that your body does prepare you and the days before you will find yourself going to the bathroom more. So be it it it happens. It's not exactly pretty to have a baby in the first place and the placenta is incredibly messy also.

Re: One of those TMI polls...

It crossed my mind while pregnant but not something i obsessed about...so glad i didn't b/c I wouldn't have known if i had gone anyway!

The nurse told me i did not go on the table. However, so much is happening that i never would have noticed. I was told that they clean it away so fast anyway that you prob woudln't see it (or DH for that matter).

I would never chance an enema. I HAVE heard of people giving themselves diarrhea from it....I would take my chances w/out it!
