only an empty sac at first sono
Just went for my first sono ... my LMP was about 6 weeks ago... there was only an empty sac.My Dr. told me to come back in a week. Did anyone else have an empty sac that later on worked out? According to online it seems like it's a blighted ovum...basically nothing.... arg.

Re: only an empty sac at first sono
5 weeks is a little early to see anything. I think I had an empty sack at that point and didn't see anything until the week after. Don't stress!

Re: only an empty sac at first sono
Wow, they did a sono very early. I wouldn't jump to think it is a blighted ovum, because you are very very early. It is very common to have nothing where you are weekwise and to come back and see something. Don't worry just yet. Most OBs won't even see you until you are 8 weeks past your LMP because you could O late and they don't want people to worry.

Re: only an empty sac at first sono
My sac also appeared empty at 5 weeks but my 6 week sono showed DC as a tiny spot... nothing to worry about. It's normal

Re: only an empty sac at first sono
i had this too i know it is frustrating, but especially if you are monitoring yourself, you find out sooner than people that arent "trying"
1/6/10 - 1st sono - empty sac 1/16/10 - 2nd sono - grain of rice 1/23/10 - 3rd sono - full tadpole looking baby with heartbeat
This is pretty common, but again, I know it is very frustrating and upsetting!!

Re: only an empty sac at first sono
I agree, I think it's too early.
My first appointment I saw the sac and then I went back 3 weeks later and saw my profile picture sonogram and heard the heartbeat.

Re: only an empty sac at first sono
HAPPENED to ME!!
I didnt keep track of my dates so I thought I was later than wh i really was.
I went and there was just a sac and dr said the shape was irregular-possibly the worst week of my life!! BO---DO NOT GOOGLE THIS INFORMATION!! Its sooooo scary! Went back the next week-and there was the sac(which now looked like a perfect egg)and inside was a fetal pole and...a heart beat! Honestly dont give up. also if they didnt find anything I was going to try a diff doc before rushing into anything!IMO
Dont stress--please update!

Re: only an empty sac at first sono
I only saw a sac at 5 weeks with my first DS.
It was fine! Definitely still early. I saw the heartbeat 2 weeks later!

Re: only an empty sac at first sono
I really wouldnt worry! If you ovulate later in your cycle, you're not as far along as you think. And its amazing how much things can change in a week. Try to relax for the next week!
Sending lot of good thoughts that everything will be ok! This is why most doctors wont even attempt to do a sono until 8 weeks.

Re: only an empty sac at first sono
I think it's pretty early to see anything besides the empty sac at an OB's office. I saw an RE and at 5 weeks you can sometimes see the fetal pole at that time but not always - an RE's equipment is usually much better.

I was sent for my first sono at what I thought was 6w5d (which is still early) and there was an empty sac. We went back a week later and there was a yolk sac and fetal pole. I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry! Sometimes we ovulate later than we think!!
