Curious. Our district has open house hours where you can tour the school find your classroom etc for the younger primary and elementary schools. If your school does this....was your teacher there? Room open and set up?

They have two events. One is an open house to tour the school without the teachers there. Then the day before school is the meet the teacher event. The one with the teachers is a 20minute thing, the open house was a two hour event describing the school, it programs, testing, activities, a typical day, lunch, arrival and departure procedures, and a tour of the school.

Interesting. They give times on three days you can walk the school. Many teachers were there but so far neither of our teachers were in yet, nor had they set up their classroom. I know my older one was disappointed bc it looked like her teacher was the only one not set up with the door locked.

In many districts, the teachers are only required to be there on Friday. When we looked at the classrooms some but not a lot of set up activity had occurred. We went to the open house yesterday. I would reassure your dc that everything will be in place for the start of the school year. Do your teachers have welcome letters on line? Perhaps you can see if the teacher has something on line to look at instead that would provide reasurance.

Our district has the classroom doors locked and we just drop the supplies outside classroom door. No teachers around :(

Our teachers are never there. I think it's ridiculous personally. They could at least have them there so the kids can put a face to the name. The rooms are set up though, and you walk inside and look around, then leave.

No her teacher doesn't have anything online. She had not set up her classroom yet and door was closed. We hope Friday she will be there.

Re: Open house at schools....teachers there?

Teachers being present for supply drop off is optional in the school I work in. I did not attend the Open House. My kids' had a 3 hour clinic for one of the sports they play and it was too far away for me to get to school. I'm sure the teachers who aren't there and haven't set up have good reasons. They will be there, ready to go on the first day. Chat Icon

We have an open house the day before school starts to meet the teacher. Then, in a few weeks, there will be an open house in the evening for parents to meet with the teacher and find out about what the kids will be learning this year.

I just found out about the open house yesterday and it is tomorrow. Not for nothing but a little advance notice to the parents would have been nice. I didn't even know what it consisted of(DD going into first grade) so I called and asked the secretary who said that your drop off supplies if you want and walk around the classroom but the teacher is under no obligation to be there. So then who supervises?

Oh no one begrudges them.. Just wondered what others did. For us our teacher was the only one not in so DD was nervous bc she was put in a class with all kids from another school who are best friends. She hopes to meet her Friday. We have heard fabulous things about her teacher. They do not take supplies so it is basically to see where your class is. Just curious bc it seems like other schools that had open houses did it when teachers were in.

We do not have Open houses before school starts. The school is open though the week prior to the start of school to drop off supplies and to check out the room. Sometimes the teachers are there and sometimes they aren't. Our open house is the second week of school and then the parent's get to meet the teacher and find out about whats going on for the year.

There's a meet & greet at DS's school today for the kindergarten kids. He gets to meet his teacher and see his classroom...and drop off the supplies too.
