Open Stores
So I'm a bit confused. I thought phase 2 was curbside pick up only for retail stores- other than the essentials that were always open like Target, supermarkets etc.
However, I got an email from Party City about balloon delivery and figured I'd get some delivered for my DD's birthday coming up. When I went to the website it asked for my zip code and pulled up my local stores and all 3 that came up said- curbside pickup AND in store shopping. So are they saying Party City is open to go in the store and shop?
And yesterday I was going to the supermarket and there is a JoAnn's Fabric and Crafts in the shopping center and I saw a woman pushing a JoAnn's shopping cart and heading in to that store as well.
What am i missing? Are some non essential stores open for inside shopping in this phase?

I am confused as well.
Our local Kirklands fully opened this weekend (with capacity guidelines) and today Marshalls, Homegood and TJ Maxx are open. Oh and Christmas Tree Stores open today.
I really would like Bath and Body to open for curbside - I like their soaps and don't want to pay shipping when I've heard it's taking weeks (we have a couple in our area that are in outdoor mall settings so they could do curbside).

Maybe you are right. Everything is just blending together in my brain right now. But it's also odd that some stores opened and others did not yet.

I thought so too but I guess things might have changed along the way. I’m super happy HomeGoods is open though!

I’m probably wrong I might be confusing us with NJs phase 2 which I think allows in-store.
On Facebook I’m seeing that HomeGoods and Marshall’s are hoping to open 6/22. If they could open now I’m sure they would so it probably is Phase 3.

That's why I found it strange that JoAnn's crafts was open and Party City. Nothing makes sense anymore.

Re: Open Stores
phase 2 was when retails stores were allowed to open but I noticed not all of them did on the first day. Like Kohl's which surprised me as they were still not open yesterday
phase 1 was curb side which retail stores were doing before pahse 1 because I dont think they realized they werent supposed too which I have no idea why there weret allowed too!

Phase 2 - retail open for in store shopping. Not all stores are open yet though. My husband works at TANGER and only a handful of stores are open yet. His store opens up Friday.

Yes- NY phase 2 allows in person shopping at reduced capacity. Many stores are choosing to wait though. I know in NYC, many stores did not reopen last week for curbside pickup, but they plan on starting this week.

I'm in a different state so our Phase 2 might be different, but I think the difference is that they're open for shorter hours and the number of people in the stores are limited. However, I walked around the mall on Memorial Day and only half the stores were open at that time. I think now, though, most are open. We even have some restaurants that are open for dining inside (instead of just take out).

From the NYS website:
Pursuant to the Governor’s Executive Orders, the following businesses remain closed:
Malls; specifically, any indoor common portions of retail shopping malls with 100,000 or more square feet of retail space available for lease must remain closed to the public; however, any stores without their own external entrance(s) may operate via curbside pickup in Phase 1 and 2 providing purchased items to customers at or near the general mall entrance and any stores with their own external entrance(s) separate from the general mall entrance (e.g. strip malls, anchor tenants), may open for curbside and in-store pickup in Phase 1 and all in-store retail activities in Phase 2;

OK now it makes sense. So stores can be open now- if not in an enclosed mall- but not all are. I guess it's up to them if they want to open or wait for the next phase with more capacity etc

They can open if they have an outside entrance. Stores inside of malls can not open yet.

I thought they were too - but, someone said that was in NJ and NY next week... But I am also in the mid-Hudson so maybe it's different?

Yeah, It hink it depends on if it is financially worth it for them and if they are prepared to meet the guidlenines Best buy near me is open, but only by appointment ( i guess so they can limit the # of people per department), which I don't have the patience for.

I don't blame you, I can't imagine ever making an appointment to go to Best Buy

I was in Newport over the weekend and their TJ Maxx and Homegoods were open. I was so excited to walk in there! It was pretty bare though. Not a lot of product.

Re: Open Stores
Stores are allowed to be open in phase 2. My brother in law works as a district manager for a retail store and they had people calling the cops on them because they were open. The cops have to come because there is a call even though they aren't doing anything wrong and then he has to report it to his Loss & Prevention team, he said it's so annoying.
