Opinins on area rug size needed

Okay so if I don't get new carpeting for DD's "big girl" room, I want to put an area rug in. The room is 10.5x13. If I get a 5x7 rug, it will pretty much sit in the middle of the room and you'll still be able to see alot of the regular carpeting. If I get an 8x10, it will take up almost the whole room but I'm just wondering if it will look silly -- like I am trying to make it look like wall to wall. Also, is it silly to put an area rug over carpeting? Any suggestions or pics you have of anything similar to this would be appreaciated. Thanks.

I don't think it would look silly, especially since it is for a child's room. As long as it matches everything else in the room it could look cute. As for sizing, just don't forget about her bed and any other furniture that will be in there. I might look off if the rug is halfway under the furniture.

I have a 5x7 over carpet in DD's room. It's a little bigger than your room. Here's an old pic. Whatever size you get make sure you get a rug pad for underneath so it won't slip and will protect the carpet underneath.
