opinions about this bday gift
Needed to buy a gift for a 2 yr old girl.
We bought her a pink Little People School Bus. (they didn't have the yellow one at BRU)
I am really bothered that we picked this gift. I have a DS. His LP school bus is yellow like a real school bus. School buses are not pink. DH is of the opinion that little girls probably like pink vehicles/toys.
It just bothers me so much that toy companies feel the need to make pink school buses, pink airplanes, pick LP rampways. Why can't little girls play with yellow school buses and white and blue planes?
But, as a parent of a DD, what are your thoughts when your child receives something like a pink school bus? Is this ok? Do I just not understand bc I have a DS?
Just want to make sure this is an ok gift.

Re: opinions about this bday gift
As the mom getting it, I dont care much. But I wont lie.. in my head I'm thinking "great pink again"
I only get a tiny bit put off when I'm TOLD they went out of their way to get pink BECAUSE she's a girl. Its like really because my daughter needs a pink bus? Btw, we have that bus at my aunt's house and yes, she went out of her way to get pink.
I buy neutral where possible. Best part is AJ prefers blue as much as she does pink. She got into a hissy because my aunt got her a toilet seat with pink handles. She refused to use it and my Aunt had to take it back for the one with blue handles!
Sure Pink is cute and AJ does like it but yeah I dont see WHY they have to market to girls in pink but hey.. it sells right?
ETA: as you can see in my avatar I'm not utterly opposed to pink! Trust me I used to be! LOL

Re: opinions about this bday gift
It bothers me. Why cant the school bus be yellow. By not also making a blue school bus it is sending the message that girls should only play with the pink one.
I have twin girls, I guess I should get over it!!

I'm with you! I hate the idea of making things gender-specific colors. There is no such thing as a pink school bus, so why would they even make it? I only have boys, so maybe I'm not being realistic, but I really hate that whole concept. That being said, if I had a girl, and she received a pink school bus toy, I would not be offended nor would I hold it against the gift giver

Re: opinions about this bday gift
I'm back and forth about this---I don't care much about say a pink schoolbus or a pink airplane...
However those FP stacking rings that have rings of red, blue, green, yellow...is made in a "girl" version. Is my female child not supposed to learn colors except for light pink, dark pink, purple, lavender?? For toys like that, I get the neutral version.

Re: opinions about this bday gift
DD has the Pink FP little people air plane and I am completely fine with it. We have the yellow school bus. I do not mind getting gender specific and gender neutral toys. We have both in our home.

Re: opinions about this bday gift
I have a son and I don't think there's anything wrong with a pink schoolbus. Honestly, they're toys, they don't have to be exact replicas of the actual item.
I am expecting a DD and if she gets pink toys I think that will be fine. I mean, I wouldn't want EVERYTHING to be pink, but I wouldn't be angry if she got a pink schoolbus.
If I had a DD first before my son, I would have bought all/mostly all neutral stuff since we always knew we wanted more kids. I had a DS first so most of his stuff is neutral or a little on the boyish side, but DD will be able to play with it too. For me, that works out best! Less stuff to buy later on.

Re: opinions about this bday gift
I don't mind it (I have the pink schoolbus too) but I do try to buy larger items like activity desks/toy chest... in neutral colors. I don't love pink so I won't specificlly look for it if there's the option but it doesn't bother me for the most part.

Re: opinions about this bday gift
I have a DD and I really, truly do not care if a school bus is pink............or any other toy for that matter. She's 3 and is well aware that a school bus is yellow but she likes to have pink things because they are "girlie". I don't really think it's a big deal if a toy isn't EXACTLY like the real thing, it's called imagination. Why can't a little girl pretend a school bus is pink or that houses are all purple and yellow? I think it's cute, don't sweat it. It's a nice gift and there are worse things to give than something pink to a little girl.
