opinions Need Ladies and Gents
Ok here is the situation. My hubby and I rent right now on the Island and we are great tenants Clean work full time neat freaks no loud parties or guest over late at night. The previous owners just sold the house and we are staying here with the new owner. Which we know him from hubby going to school with him and living next to him a few years ago. So we do consider him a friend and someone we really like and same with him with us. So now he has increased our rent by $50.00 which is fine but also wants us to pay for the part of the cable so another $30.00 so total of $80.00 but the thing is with the old landlord everything was included in the price and now he wants to raise it $80.00 but we aren't getting anything more out of the deal. Do you think that is cool and I'm just being cheap or would you try to neg. on the extra $30.00?? I hope this makes sense.
Thanks ladies Denise

$80 dollars for (partial) utilites that you would have to pay if you moved elsewhere does not seem unreasonable to me at all.
I would, however, opt to get a lease of some sort into effect. You don't want the new landlord coming to you in a few months talking about money for AC or anything else.
Good luck!

I don't think there's much you can do -- it's a new owner and it has nothing to do with your previous arrangement. If you got your own cable, you would be paying way more then $30 a month.

it doesn't matter what kind of a deal you had w the old landlord. the new landlord has a right to change the deal, "friend" or not. business is business.

considering his mortgage is likely higher
and you're getting a steal on the cable, $30 or not - i see no problem with it
