You did nothing wrong! Go find another daycare! That makes me thinking something is fishy.

Re: Opinions needed - daycare drama

Crashing....

I just went through looking for daycare for September, when I will have a 3 m.o. Every center I went to had some kind of sheet/daily report. We ended up going with a family group daycare, and they don't do sheets as routine, but told me they will do WHATEVER I want. One of the other parents I spoke to said that she wanted a notebook written in every day for her son, and that they did it with no problem. They were totally accommodating.

I would not be comfortable with sending my child to a place that responded to a simple request in that manner. I'm sorry you're dealing with that. Chat Icon

Re: Opinions needed - daycare drama

DD was in daycare until she was 2 yo.

I was given a sheet everyday with details about what she ate and when, diaper changes (dry, wet, poop) and later trips to the potty, how long she napped and when, what her mood was, what they did for the day. EVERYTHING!

You can definitely find a place that she and you will be happy with, that can provide this for you. You are ENTITLED to know what your daughter did for the day!

Thank you again ladies!

I need some more advice ..... it might take me quite some time to find a new daycare, in the meantime, would you feel comfortable leaving your child after what I went through?

We never see the owner, she doesn't care for my child ... she has created some horrible drama for us and the teachers, but I'm hoping in the meantime we can smooth this over ourselves, the teachers have always cared wonderfully for my DD. This has nothing to do with them, it's the owner.

Do you think I can get through this, having her there until I find a new place? I hate that the owner created such drama for us when we didn't deserve it. This is such a mess!!!

I think I'm in the minority but if you are very happy with your daycare, I would not change daycares.

DS is not in daycare but we visited a lot of preschools. Not all preschools give a sheet to parents. DS's preschool does and I like talking to him about his day.

I don't think I would consider this a dealbreaker if we didn't receive the sheet.

I know you think this has nothing to do with the teachers, but they are the ones who do not write the notes...so they are not doing their job. I would work quickly to move my child.

While I think the director was being ridiculous, not every center gives notes. If this center is one of those then they are doing their jobs. I think a lot of people are quick to say leave. I would look for a place but unless your child is in danger or being neglected I don't think u need to be finding emergency backup.

Definitely.. their priority is your childs safety and well being!! Also make sure you read thru your "contract" to see how long of a notice you need to give them before you leave.

Bridex100 its less about the sheet and more about the attitude they are having towards her. THIS they consider a difficult parent.. that's HORRIBLE!! How dare they!!

She will NEVER want to confront them about a god forbid SERIOUS issue b/c she will fear they are being "difficult" it's just ridiculous.. ITS NOT ABOUT THE GRAM.. ITS ABOUT THEIR ATTITUDE TOWARDS PARENTS.

Re: Opinions needed - daycare drama

I would not want to use a daycare that didn't give out a sheet about what your child did each day. I think it's especially important when the child is at an age where he or she cannot really communicate yet. The fact that the Director lectured you on why they don't give one out would seriously make me consider switching daycares. Your request was perfectly reasonable and very typical of what daycares do.

Re: Opinions needed - daycare drama

I think a daily log sheet is pretty standard practice with most Daycares. I think within certain age limits that it is even the law. I babysit a 3 year old girl and have been doing so in my own home since she was 6 weeks old. I started a daily log for her back then when she was a baby, and so out of habit we still did it up until she was turning 3. Once she was fully potty trained and started preschool part time it became a little bit more difficult to track everything she ate and every time she used the potty.

But even just a simple sheet with check marks or tally marks would be helpful and it wouldn't take very long to do. It bothers me that they are so unwilling to entertain such a simple request. You aren't asking them to go against any rules.

Re: Opinions needed - daycare drama

Just did some googling and there are forms out there that are widely available. They don't even have to come up with a form on their own!

Here is an example of one that I found

Re: Opinions needed - daycare drama

What you are asking for is not unreasonable at all. Our daycare give a daily sheet every day. Infants sheet shows: bottles, food, diaper changes - wet or bm, naps, etc. Toddler and pre-k show: meals, naps and a couple of paragraphs about what they learned that day and what they played as a group. The afternoon teachers are different than the morning, but if there was anything specific that needed to be spoken about the morning teacher would notify the afternoon teacher to talk to you.

I would personally look for a new day care and I am not one to pull a child from day care at the first sign of trouble, but this is serious in my opinion. First of all that they don't give daily sheets and second of all how the director reacted to you.

Good luck!

Re: Opinions needed - daycare drama

If there has been drama before, based on this response, I am willing to bet it was 100% the director's fault. I don't think you were unreasonable at all and she's crazy if she thinks giving a daily sheet or log is unreasonable.

I will tell you, though, that once my DS moved up at about 2, the logs became much more abbreviated. I didn't get a listing of every diaper change, and the listing of what he ate was much shorter, but since he had been there a long time and had a regular routine, I didn't worry about it. What they did continue to do was write down the times that he napped, which I do still find helpful. I guess what I am saying is that in the infant and toddler rooms, those daily sheets had LOTS of info, where at 2 1/2, 3 and older, there isn't too much info on there. The other reason I like the sheets though, is that often times the head teacher is gone at pickup time and there is no one there to tell me what kind of day he had (which sounds like what happens with you too). The sheets at least give you some info.

I would be OK with leaving her there until you find another place if you aren't having any trouble with the teachers.

Re: Opinions needed - daycare drama

Ladies .... I'm sure you have all at times felt totally "alone" while going through a difficult situation regarding your child .... and have sought out this website for other Mom's advice and opinions ..... I can't tell you how grateful I am for the advice, feedback and opinions of everyone that has responded.

I am the first one to admit my mistakes and in this case I feel strongly that my family has done nothing wrong but unfortunately the owner of this daycare is an inpossible person with an inpossible personality.

I would be fearful to ever say anything negative and I of course can't have my DD at a daycare for the next 2 years where I can't be her advocate.

If only I could find the right daycare/preschool easily, then I'd be in a better place.

If anyone has more suggestions for full time preschools with summer programs, in the Commack ish area. Please let me know!

Thank you again Ladies!

Ok Im sooo not one to jump to FIND ANOTHER DAYCARE.. BUT REALLY..FIND ANOTHER DAYCARE!!!

most daycares give you a "gram" or something stating what your child did or did not do that day.. If THIS IS CONSIDERED BEING A DIFFICULT FAMILY.. OMG...what happens when something serious happens!!

OMG REALLY NOT COOL AT ALL. Im sooo angry for you!!! FIND ANOTHER DAYCARE!! UNACCEPTABLE!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

even if they dot want to give you soemthing in writing.. FINE that's their policy BUT TO MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE BEING DIFFICULT IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!

Ditto
Any daycare worth their salt gives you updates on YOUR child.
What they ate, when they were changed or used the potty, naps, etc
Ridiculous!

Re: Opinions needed - daycare drama

I am so sorry you're dealing with this!

As a former day care worker, part of my job WAS to hand out "Daily Grams" every single day!
When I taught the pre-k class, it was required we do a weekly letter!

The pre-k my son goes to now is also a daycare (it's in Northport & Greenlawn, I highly recommend them if it's reasonable for you) and I see the "daily notes" on a dry/erase board every day on the day care side (Northport center).
FM me if you want info!

I would definitley look for something else because I have an ugly feeling that the teachers are the ones reporting back to the owner! Chat Icon

Good Luck with this. There are better centers and staff out there! Chat Icon
