opinions needed please...id LOVE to be able to sleep at nite..
my dd is alomost 10 weeks old, and still waking every 3-4 hours to eat at nite..from being on here, i see that its more common then i thought at this age, and could go on for months.. my ds didnt do this, he slept at 6 weeks for 10-12 hours a nite..
anyway, once in awhile i get 5-6 hours, but its rare..
i was supplementing with formula at the nitetime feedings for a few reasons.. 1) i thought my dh would be able to help me
2) i thought i wasnt getting enough milk and she was still very hungry in the beginning..i also thought the formula would hold her over longer then the BM
3) i was just tired from BFing all day and just wanted a break of someone on top of me.
ok, so yesterday i realized...
my dh hardly EVER wakes up with her to feed her, and if he does, im pumping.. im getting enough milk now, and to be honest, shes waking up every 3 hours either way, so whats the difference lol and its actually easier for me to BF and takes a shorter time, and she goes right to bed after as opposed to me having to really hold her for awhile at 4am after a formula feeding...
anyway last nite for the first time ever my dd was totally breastfed, and im gonna nix the formula i think..
my questions are..(if youve gotten this far lol)
do you think this is a good idea? maybe the fomula is upsetting her tummy since shes used to BM and thats why she wakes so much still?
should i change her with each feeding still? i feel like it wakes her more when i do, and shes never really THAT wet.. and.. is there ANYTHING else i should be doing that will promote her sleeping longer?!?!
any advice would be appreciated!! thank you so much!!

I would just BF at night. It's easier. In my experience, formula didn't keep DS fuller. I would only change poopie diapers at night, unless wet diapers bother DD and will keep her up, then definitely change it.
My son woke that often to eat at that age too. I BF'd until 4 months. At 6 months he stopped waking to eat, but continued to wake several times during the night for no particular reason until 8 1/2 months, he magically started sleeping through the night.

I don't really have any advice for making her "sleep longer" since Ryan is EBF and just started sleeping through the night at 7 months when we finally moved him to his crib.
However, I stopped changing his diaper at night once I realized he wasn't pooping anymore at night (somewhere around 8 or 9 weeks). So I don't see a problem with you stopping.
If DH isn't helping with the feedings anyway, I say save the $$ on the formula and go back to EBF.
I always had DS cosleep with me until we transitioned him to the crib at 7 months. Made BFing and midnight wakings much easier. Stick a boob in his mouth, I'd go back to sleep, and at some point so did he.

DS is a few weeks older than your DD. He's EBF and doesn't sleep through the night. There are times when I get one long stretch of 4 or 5 hours per night and there are times when he wakes to eat every hour or two. I have no advice on how to get them to sleep longer. I also co-sleep b/c DS hates the crib. I don't know if that contributes to him waking often, but it does make it easier to fall back alseep quickly.
I change his diaper at least once per night, especially when he poops. If I didn't change it, he'd end up peeing through the diaper and onto both of us. DS went from nursing for 45+ minutes to nursing for about 10 minutes at night. Although I'm sure he has gotten more efficient, it doesn't hold him over as long. I tend to change his diaper after he nurses on one side b/c it wakes him up so he could eat more and hopefully go longer between feedings. He tends to fall asleep while nursing so changing his diaper and waking him up hasn't really been an issue.
The best way to maintain your supply is to keep BFing so I'd give up the formula at night. If it's not working out, you could always go back to what worked best for you.
