Opinions please: next level car seat question

DS starts daycare next week and we're going to need to get another car seat base for DH's car.

Thing is, DS is already 16 pounds and 26 inches and I feel like in a month or so we'll be squishing him in the infant seat.

Do you think we should just get the next level (convertable) car seat now and get two bases for that???

Or just get the other infant seat base and buy the converatble seat when he's actually ready???

TIA

Can you borrow a base? I'd lend you one if we lived closerChat Icon

If not, I'd just do the convertible, but do t hey have bases too? Or are they just installed in the car? If they are installed, then I'd install it in DH's car and keep the infant seat in yours.

I'm going back to work Wednesday and I am starting to panic tooChat Icon

I don't think the convertible seats have bases like infant seats. If you want to have one in each car you have to buy two seats I think.

Oh, I didn't realize that. That's why I love this site - I'd be wandering aimlessly around BRU looking for bases!! Chat Icon

Then we'd either have to buy two seats or switch it out everyday???

Ugh.

It the convertable one easier to get in and out?

Yep, I think you'll have to get 2. Will he be in one car more than the other? Some people buy a really good one, like a Britax for one car, and another safe, but less expensive one for the 2nd car. I'm not sure how easy it is to switch one, but I think it would probably be a PIA most of the time.

DH will be dropping him off at daycare in the mornings and I pick him up in the afternoon, so he's in the cars equally.

Guess I better get on it!

What about weekends & outings? Do you take one car more than the other?

Lauren...get 2 convertibles...dont' get another base.

If you need to...just get one convertible for DH's car, and continue to use the infant seat in your car until you get a second convertible.

Re: Opinions please: next level car seat question

Def get the convertibles. Some seats are easier to take out & put in than others. I happen to be the one who is good to doing the carseat thing in our family and of course having a LATCH equipped car helps. But some carseats are a PITA to adjust vs others. Britax is always the easiest IMO. Maybe get one convertible now and another when he officially outgrowns the infant seat.

I'm LOL @ the idea of hauling a baby & a convertible seat out of the car. Not laughing at you - it's a learning process for everyone with baby gear - but just the visual image and the idea of how much that would weigh has me Chat Icon

See, it didn't even dawn on me that the base is there so you can carry the baby in the seat.

I thought it was there to fit better in the car. Chat Icon

Yeah - 2+2 = 5 these days. Chat Icon

for teh time being you know you can use the infant seat with a base in your car and then use the infant seat WITHOUT the base in your DHs car

buy the convertible. Forget the infant car seat at this point. DD is 19 pounds and 10 months and she is definitely outgrowing her infant. We are in transition at this point.

Re: Opinions please: next level car seat question

I would get two equal convertible seats. You really don't want to swap cars with the seats. Every time you attach the seat, you'll have to be extremely careful in getting it as tight as possible. They really aren't designed to be put in and out of a car every day. You're bound to not make it tight once in a while. Convertible seats go up to 60lbs (some up to 85), so they will last quite a few years. It's not like you'll be buying a new car seat every two years or so.

Happy shopping!! You'll find much better prices on Britax online than in the stores (if thats what you decide on).
