opinions RE: who should pay?
ok... so some of you might have seen my post that i lost my engagement ring AND wedding band last week at my parents beach house in north carolina. we were going out on a boat, and i took off my rings, and left them in a pocket of a bookbag that we left at the house. i went to put them on that night, and they weren't there! we looked EVERYWHERE several times, and my parents cleaned the house after we left and saw nothing, either. and, of course, we never added them to our homeowners insurance, so they will not be covered.
so, my question now is... DH and i have seperate accounts, so who should pay for the new ones? LOL me, since it was my stupidity and i should have left them in a safer place? or DH since he bought the original ones? just wanted to get everyones take on it...

they may be covered under your insurance. Just because they weren't invidually insured doesn't mean they are not regular property. Did you call your insurance company? Did you ever have an appraisal done?

yeah... we called our insurance company, and they would only cover them if they were stolen, not lost.... we would need to have a police report.it happened last thursday down in NC, so i was thinking its probably too late to file one.....

I'm so sorry to hear, that just stinks.
Did you visit my big bro?
I don't think I would get a new Ering, but I would buy nice band for myself have it blessed and then have Dh's account pay insurance premiums on a rider to insure it and then hope and pray that down the line you might get a replacement ering if it means that much to you for a anniversary gift

I had thought I lost my E-ring in the winter - thank goodness I found it. I was going to replace it myself - I didn't think that was fair to expect DH to get me another. I would go for a nice fakie now and maybe get real rings as future gifts and split the cost.

I would file it. What do you have to lose? As far as what you have said, you went back to look and they were gone. Someone could have stolen them.

I would too- I kinda think they were stolen- if you put them some where- and then they are gone when you get back- I don't see how you lost them

If you lost them, you buy them.
Also, isn't the money in your account and his account BOTH of your money? You're married to him, right? I don't understand the "my account/his account" thing if you're married. In the end, you're both still paying for it.

I would never ask my DH to replace my ring if it was lost and uninsured. I actually JUST insured my ring and I've had it since December of 04. You will feel much better once it's insured.
I say buy a wedding band for now, and wait a little while for the ering.
