OPK question...

I am so confused once you get your surge you do not have to keep testing? Or do you still test? I am only asking this because I have seen some posters post that they are still testing after the surge. Should I keep testing after the surge? ( I do not like to have to hold going to the bathroom becuase I am prone to UTI's.) TIA!Chat Icon

Normally, you do not have to. I happen to do it last month just out of curiosity so I could see if the test would pick up a surge, meaning I'd still be in that fertile period. Last month, my cycle was different and I happen to randomly decide to test early and hit a surge! We had not BD for five days prior since DH had to go for a semen analysis....therefore, I was concerned we missed a few chances and I was curious if I would have a surge the next day since I did not get to see that gradual progression of a dark second line.

Bottom line, most things you read will say once you get the surge, you can stop. Best of luck to you....

Re: OPK question...

I think it is a good idea to keep testing until the surge goes away so you can pinpoint a little better when ovulation occurs.

Say you get a surge today and then tomorrow you find it's still a surge but just a little lighter - than you probably ovulated between today and tomorrow. If however you get a much lighter reading tomorrow you probably know you ovulated closer to yesterday.

Good Luck!!

Re: OPK question...

My cycles are 41 days long with the exception one time which was shorter (34), the first cycle I tried OPks I got a surge on CD 11 but didn't get AF until CD 42...therefore based on info I got from here and other websites..I didn't ovulate and there would have been a second surge but I stopped testing so I wouldn't know

This time (2nd cycle trying OPKs) I started testing right after AF and got a surge on CD14, I BDed just in case and continued testing....I got my second surge this weekend on CD 24 (which would make sense since my cycles are 41 days long).
