OPK VS. Ovulation Tracking APP

I've been tracking my period on an APP that will predict when I'm ovulating. This is also my third month using OPK's. I'm on CD12 today and didn't get a smiley yet but my APP is telling me that I'm ovulating today. Why would it be off ? I know it's just an APP so I'm not really going by it but I have to say when I was trying for DD I used just the APP and we got pregnant the first month trying.

OPK VS. Ovulation Tracking APP

The app didn't work for me at all. The month I got pregnant, I got my smiley on CD18 and the app was telling me my window was much earlier. So I would continue with OPKs but that's me!

yea, if you have OPKs, of if you get EWCM, those are much more accurate than an app... which is only going to give you a typical cycle. Not every ovulates on day 14.

I agree.
For example...my app didn't show me ovulating until later this week based on my previous months. Meanwhile, I ovulated this past Thursday. Use the app as a guideline and to keep track, but definitely stick with OPK's and your body's signals.

Re: OPK VS. Ovulation Tracking APP

I had two miscarriages last year. Both times I got pregnant, I was tracking on an APP and using OPKs. I feel like I got pregnant back to back because I had just gotten off of BC and my cycle was regulated still. Once a few months passed, and my REAL cycle kicked back in, I couldn't get pregnant as easily. After I had a D&C in May, I tracked on the APP and used OPK's for 3 months. On the 4th I decided to temp and chart because I was convinced I wasn't ovulating. Turns out I WAS, just not when I thought I was. After one month of temping and charting, I got pregnant with my twins.

OPK VS. Ovulation Tracking APP

An app just uses what is typical. So the basically will say you ovulate mid way through your cycle. Apps don't perdict

Can I ask if you were ovulating later than the OPK's were telling you? I think I may have the same issue!

Yup! That's exactly what was happening but I had no idea until I started temping/charting.

Were your periods on time or off schedule too? I ask because my period has been precisely on schedule so I assume that means I am ovulating when I am supposed to be, but nothing has happened just yet. We also have been trying to hit every day in the week that the app suggests to account for fluctuations. I am not quite ready to start the temping and OPKs just yet...but may need to soon.

Re: OPK VS. Ovulation Tracking APP

To the pp poster (sorry, I meant to quote but forgot to!)

I had a 26 day cycle ever since I got off BC but was I ovulating on Day 18 and the app was showing me ovulating on Day 12 (since the norm is a 14 day luteal phase) but it was so far from the truth, it was my luteal phase that was short.

You totally could be ovulating on Day 14 of a 28 day cycle and be normal but it's also possible you ovulate late or early in your cycle and still get your period at the same time each month. If you aren't ready to jump to OPKs though, don't! But this definitely could be your next step.

Eactly! And I agree...if you aren't ready to temp or use OPK's, then don't. It can be stressful and consuming.
