Ordering Milk and Sugar in Coffee
Here is my I'm a dummy question of the day. I'm new to the whole coffee drinking thing. At places like Dunkin Donuts they ask me how much milk I want. What is the correct answer? Should I be giving a number of those little thimble things? Or do I say just a little vs a lot? For the sugar is the answer in number of packets or tablespoons or what?

Re: Ordering Milk and Sugar in Coffee
lol if you want a lot of milk u would ask for it "light". otherwise you would ask for it regular or dark.
you can also specify what kind of milk u want (skim, etc.)
i usually get a large hot latte with skim and two splenda and thats exactly how i order it!
good luck!

Re: Ordering Milk and Sugar in Coffee
My husband likes extra cream and extra sugar, so he orders it that way-
Large French Vanilla Extra Extra
IN NY he would order it:
Large French Vanilla Light & Sweet

Re: Ordering Milk and Sugar in Coffee
Good advice on the milk. Dunkin Donuts likes to O.D. on sugar in your coffee though, so watch out. And it seems like they do it at every store. I like 2 sugar packets in my medium coffee (2 teaspoons). If you ask for 2 sugars at Dunkin, though, they give you two giant-sized scoops of sugar, probably more like 2 tablespoons! Or more. At least three times as much sugar as I want. I started asking for "one sugar" but even that was too sweet for me, so now I ask for milk and no sugar, and just put the packets in myself.

Re: Ordering Milk and Sugar in Coffee
Dunkin tends to add too much sugar and not enough milk b/c their coffee is like 20 degree hotter than normal. So I ask for extra milk and I'll add my own sugar.
So, "Medium French Vanilla, a lot of milk" because even if I ask for EXTRA milk, I still have to give it back to them to dump some out and add more milk because I can't drink it for another 30 minutes or risk losing 50,000 taste buds.

most of the time the person behind the counter hasn't a clue and will give you the same amount of milk whether you say you want a little or a lot. and never ask for sugar. i think they dump it in by the tablespoonful

Re: Ordering Milk and Sugar in Coffee
When I'm at the deli I ask for a drop of half & half and one sugar.
At SB I get americanos so I add that myself.
I like it dark with one packet of sugar.
I have to be very specific about it..they always add too much milk.

Glad to hear that I'm not alone in my feelings as a coffee newbie.
I appreciate all of your guidance, maybe I can stop feeling like an idiot every time I order.

Re: Ordering Milk and Sugar in Coffee
Not a coffee drinker but I get hot chocolate once in a while
I don't use the word "light" because they confuse with "fat free" milk. I will say "little" or "easy on the milk".

Re: Ordering Milk and Sugar in Coffee
I used to say very light with half and half and 10 equals.
Then I got the face and "Did you say TEN EQUALS?"
And that is why I stopped going to places like DD where they prepare your coffee for you. If I never hear "Why don't you have some coffee with your sugar?" ever again in my lifetime, I will be happy.
