organic milk update!

ladies, an update to the organic non refrigerated milk-

my future sil who is getting married on saturday went to gristedes in the city to get me the organic milk. so appreciative of her doing this for me. my mom picked it up yesterday and i got it today.

well i look on the top of it to check the date and they are all expired. the date says best if used by may 16th. we are going to use them thursday-sunday. what do you think? should i take a chance? should i wait to see if they have organic milk there and if not use the ones that my future sil bought? Thanks

I have a thing against expired dairy products so I wouldn't chance it.

Re: organic milk update!

When I was at my local Super Walmart in the toddler food aisle they had Organic Toddler Milk sold in drink boxes like Parmalant. It stated that it was great for lunchboxes because it didn't have to be refridgerated and the expiration date was really far away. I think it was made by NaturesBest or something like that. I almost picked some up for DS for hurricane season but figured I had time to wait till next pay day.
It was all the way on the bottom shelf at my Walmart.

I know I am being a total beeyotch by saying this...but is all this hassle really worth it? Why not just head off on holiday with enough milk for the flight and just risk it when you get to your destination, and if worse comes to worse...just give the kid regular old milk for 5 days!!!

This sounds like a right palaver all for the sake of some organic milk. If you are not eating ALL organic food, it won't make that much of a difference!

Again...sorry for being a total beeyotch...

Re: organic milk update!

I myself would never put ANYTHING expired in my mouth- let alone my childs...

The 16th was almost 2 weeks ago.....

Re: organic milk update!

rachee, i totally understand where you are comingfrom. we are traveling to the grand bahamas for my brothers wedding and have 4 days of events. if this kid ends up with the runs im in trouble. i packed 1 1/2 packages of diapers in the luggage. i know she can drink whole milks she has had ice cream but if i can give her organic i prefer. most of the food i feed her is organic. it wont hurt her to drink regular milk. dh is checking the supermarket by his job tommorrow. im calling parmalat tomorrow to tell them i bought 8 containers and they are all expired. maybe they will send me some product. ps we are leaving wednesday morning so if they say its ok to drink it as the best if sold by date is just a cushion im bringing it if not then we will wing it and hope they carry organic milk at the market place.

also the walmart carries drinkboxes of 1% and 2% need whole milk for Olivia.

ladies thanks for all your suggestions, cares and concerns. will keep you posted.

Re: organic milk update!

If it was a day or two and you were using it now, I'd taste it to see. But May 16th is way off.

And to boot, Organic milk typically has a huge window of expiration (because its pastuerized at a very high temp) -
Organic Milk I bought yesterday has a July 5th date on it.
So that milk you have is way old.

what happened with Parmalat shipping it to you?
