Orthodontist Visits
When did your DC see the orthodontist for the first time? My 7 year old has a small mouth and his teeth are coming in super crooked so I knew we would have orthodontia in our future but, the dentist advises I start now which was a bit of a surprise.
Thanks!

Good luck. We have a consult on Thursday. I've been looking at other children's mouths since then and noticed there is definitely a difference in the amount of space they have for adult teeth.

Re: Orthodontist Visits
I'm super confused about braces. I have an 8 year old DS (just turned 8 in Jan). While he's lost a lot of baby teeth his incisors on both sides of the front teeth have yet to come down. Are ortho's bracing kids when teeth still have to come down? Dentist says eventually braces but not yet, 8 seems so young.

My son's mouth is tiny so our dentist feels if he doesn't get early orthodontic care his teeth may not be able to come in properly - leading to more intense orthodontic care in the future. He probably will just get a pallette expander now and then braces once he gets all of his adult teeth. He's only lost 6 teeth at this point.

Orthodontist Visits
My older DD had braces and a palette expander on between ages 10-12. We started consultations with the ortho at age 8 once a year to monitor her xrays and have teeth pulled. It worked out very well and she has a beautiful smile now and doesn't have to wear braces in high school!
My youngest DD is 9 and we just went for an ortho consult, her mouth is narrow and teeth are very crowded. We will need to have 2 of her baby teeth pulled and then a palette expander put in asap, braces will come later
