orthopedist recommendations - Nassau Co or NYC
Looking for a recommendation for a superior orthopedist in Manhattan or in Nassau County.
I am having trouble with my achilles tendon and I also need a new doctor for my back. I need a really, really awesome doctor, particularly for my lower back.
Most importantly, I need a doctor who understands sports medicine and realizes that being able to participate in my sport for the long-term is a top priority.

I will find out who my mom and grandmother used a while back but he was supposed to be outstanding and get back to you.
This group is supposed to be very good and I know several of them work with sports injuries. It is a Cornell group. They have bios so you can look up who works in the area you need.

I used Dr. Osric King located on Union Tpke. right across the street from St. John's University....a huge portion of his patients are athletes.

Can you go out to Suffolk County? My DR is in West Islip. I LOVE him, so many people I know went to him also. Let me know!

Dr. MIchael Neuwirth in NYC. Google him. He's amazing. He did my surgery back in 2001. He also did Gloria Estefans surgery and worked with Chris Reeves. He's done surgeries on people that other docs wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. And he's so amazing. I so him back in March and he remembered everything about mine and my sister's cases from 2001 without having my chart. That shows how much he cares about his patients! But he only does backs.
Another surgeon I've worked with is Dr. Marc Agulnick in Garden City. He trained with Dr. Neuwirth and will perform my next surgery since he takes my insurance and is closer to home.
Also, Dr. Illman in Massapequa. He did surgery on my ankle when I broke an inner bone and had to have screws put in to fix it. Great doc! He worked a lot with wrestlers so I'm sure he'd be able to relate to the sport aspect. Good luck!

Re: orthopedist recommendations - Nassau Co or NYC
Thanks for all of the recommendations everyone! I appreciate it.
I don't actually need surgery (or I doubt I need surgery) -- but these aren't issues I want treated by a GP.
I'll look into all of these suggestions.
