our Dog is gone (kind of pregnancy related)
I'm writing this here because I have written 2 posts here about the family dog. I was worried about how I would have our baby in the house with the dog pooping everywhere randomly.
We put him down yesterday. There were a bunch of health and pain issues which compounded and finally, the decision had to be made.
He had dementia and pooped in the house daily. His pacing was getting worse at night and in the mornings, he could not get up on his own. He would come back from his morning walk and collapse before getting to his water bowl.Apparently, in the midst of treating him for a kidney/uti infection, he suffered a stroke and lost function of one of his legs.
Yesterday I felt guilty because it stressed me out while he was alive and part of me wanted him gone.
But, today I feel sad and I really miss him. The house is so empty and quiet without him. Even the cat has gone quiet and that alone is unheard of. My FIL is heartbroken and depressed.
Anyway, I felt I had to post this here because you all were there for me when I was complaining...something I feel really bad about now.

I know you feel bad about complaining, but just because he stressed you out does not mean you didn't love him. It sounds like he had a lot of problems. You gave him a loving home and did the kindest thing you could for him when it was his time of need. Please don't beat yourself up. I am so sorry for your family's loss.

Me too, this was perfectly said. I work at a veterniary hospital and a lot of people have the same emotions you do. Its totally normal and you did what was best for your doggie. I am so very sorry for your loss.

awwww i'm so sorry about your pup. it's so hard to lose a pet, but you can't feel guilty. the reasons you had for wanting him put down were the results of him suffering. sounds like putting him down was definitely the kind decision, even though it might not have felt like it. he must have been suffering, and he's in a better place now. i'm sorry for your saddness, though. feel better. and just think, baby will be here soon...your emptiness you feel now will be replaced by SO much joy!

Taking care of a dog at the end is very hard. And putting them down is a VERY hard decision to make. Do not feel bad about complaining. It's difficult to handle. You made the right decision. He's at peace now. And I'm sure your cat misses him. My dogs used to get quiet and sad when one was gone. They mourn too. But do not feel bad about your decision. You did the right thing.

You def made the right choice. The poor dog was suffering and was probably in pain.
God bless.

Re: our Dog is gone (kind of pregnancy related)
Thank you all for your kind words. It really helps to hear from others. FIL is devastated and going through his process, it was his dog.
I was only around him for 4yrs and did'nt realize how much of a silent bond we had until now. I don't get attached to people or pets very easily.
It's going to take a while and hopefully each day that passes will be a little easier.
Thanks again.
