Out-Of-State Speeding Ticket
Have you ever gotten one?
If so, how did you handle it, if you do not have the ability to go in person.

Just happened to me recently. I wrote a letter by certified mail to the judge.

Re: Out-Of-State Speeding Ticket
We got a must appear in court ticket couple of years ago. We spoke with the local authorities and I think an asst Distict Atty in the jurisdiction while we were on vacation and was told there is no way to plea bargain it down and just pay a fine. Our choice was to appear on a Wed in NC or hire an atty to handle it for us.
Conveniently enough we had a dozen letters from local attorneys in our mailbox when we got home. We used one of them to handle it. Miraculously, they were able to settle the ticket before the court date - no fine or anything. We just had to pay the atty.
It was a total racket but what can ya do?

Really, what was the outcome? What did you write?
My DH is in his residency and can't get down to NC.
We were driving to my interview and late and lost....he was doing 80 There was no fee, just an appearance date. The officer would not put a fee, even knowing he could not get down then.

You need a lawyer in NC to handle it. The lawyer can appear for you. It'll probably cost a couple hundred for the lawyer.

Wait - is it a mandatory court appearance? Call the clerk for the court handling the ticket.
If it's not a mandatory appearance, you might be able to handle it remotely. If you just want to pay it and not fight it, the clerk can give you the amont of the fine - so long as it's not a mandatory appearance.
