Outdoor cats have been disappearing from my parents block.
The neighbors are devastated. So far 7 cats are missing within a week.
I guess someone is trapping them and keeping them or something. I don't even want to think worse things

I don't get it, why so many cats outside to begin with?
Maybe someone is doing TNR? All these cats can't be spayed/neutered, can they?

Are they stray cats? Why are there so many cats outside to begin with?
My friend just bought a house and had to spend over $500 to buy some sort of 'safe' stuff to keep the cats off her property, but not harm them ........
I wouldn't want all of those cats roaming around my house either .........they' can't all be spayed/neutered ........-

It sounds like someone is either trapping and relocating them or worse.

Are these cats pets or feral?

Re: Outdoor cats have been disappearing from my parents block.
They are pets and it isn't just one house. It is a few people on the block that are missing their cats. It is at least 7 total.
They are very nice cats. And beautiful

Wow, that's a LOT of people who let their cats out. Most people I know keep their cats indoors for reasons such as this.

Re: Outdoor cats have been disappearing from my parents block.
I'm not surprised that many people have indoor/outdoor cats or outdoor cats. It's very common in my parents neighborhood, too, though I don't think there are 7 cats on their block.
I wonder if someone was trying to trap feral cats to TNR?
That's very odd. When are they disappearing? Daytime? Nighttime?
The cats in my parents' neighborhood go out, but never for more than an hour or two at a time.

Re: Outdoor cats have been disappearing from my parents block.
I doubt they are being TNR is the cats dont came back in a few days. Unless the organization that is trapping them also does adoptions and rehomes the friendly ones. Most organizations ive been with wont go into neighborhoods though, unless its a known feral population. Is there a shopping center or feral colony around? If not then theres probably an angry neighbor relocating them. Everyone should try to keep their cats indoors for a while.
What town is this in?

Re: Outdoor cats have been disappearing from my parents block.
When I was younger, I had a stray that we took care of while outside for a while. So did my friend.
One day both of our cats were missing and someone saw this CRAZY dirtbag kid we knew took my friend's cat. So we went banging on his parent's garage and we heard the cats in there! Sure enough, later that day, our cats miraculously showed up again at our homes. WE KNEW HE TOOK THEM, esp since there were rumors that this kid once shoved a firecracker up an animal's rear. Our cats were fine, but we finally took her in for good after that, for fear of what he would do to her.
There are sickos out there, and that is why I would NEVER let my pet out. I don't even leave my dogs out iF i AM NOT WITH THEM, for fear someone will throw them something to harm them or steal them. I have a neighbor I don't get along with and I always mistrust that he could throw some poison to my dogs, etc....to spite me.
Yes, some people who dislike animals ARE crazy and actually want to do them harm.

Re: Outdoor cats have been disappearing from my parents block.
It could be a lot of things. Someone might be doing TNR, relocating to a feral community, rehoming....
I love cats and own one and even I have just had it with the cats in our neighborhood. I don't know how many there are, but it's terribly annoying when you are trying to go to sleep and there are cats howling outside or going to the bathroom in your flowerbeds.
Maybe these people should bring their cats in and they wouldn't have to worry about them. My cat is an indoor cat for that exact reason...I don't want to have to worry that he got hit by a car, trapped

Re: Outdoor cats have been disappearing from my parents block.
Hopefully they were just mistakenly TNR and relocated and not taken by some sickco. It's a risk you take when you let your cat roam the neighborhood.

Re: Outdoor cats have been disappearing from my parents block.
Well, I guess all of these owners will re-think letting their next cats outside, huh? I can only hope they were taken by a good samaritan who is trying to find them loving INDOOR homes where they can be safe and sound at ALL TIMES.
This is the exact reason why I believe all pets should be indoor pets! Cats AND dogs! There are too many crazy people out there who will do very bad things to animals caught outdoors. Even with a fenced in yard, I wouldn't leave my animals outside alone if I weren't home to watch them even if just for 5 minutes!!!
And it's an even bigger shame b/c these cats are accustomed to humans and would probably go to anybody. What is WRONG with these people? Pet owners should really have to pass some sort of class and be checked up on before taking in animals!!! No cat should be "indoor/outdoor!!!" It's just too damn dangerous for them.
