outdoor runners: what do you wear in the cold weather?
I just started running as part if my fitness program, but it's getting so cold out!! Embarrassingly, i have a fear of the treadmill, besides the fact that i'm paying $$ for a home personal trainer and i don't want to commit to another expense at this time of year.
So. What do outdoor runners wear in the cold months to stay warm? I know there are some special brands just for this, but not sure what they are.
Thanks!

Nike Coldgear or Underarmor cold gear. Both work really well.

Re: outdoor runners: what do you wear in the cold weather?
I have a number of wicking shirts from races that I wear as an initial layer. Then depending on the weather, I'll throw on a sweatshirt or rain gear.
I have flannel lined sweats, meshed lined track pants and a few pairs of insulated tights (love them - so comfy) - again - depends on the exact weather conditions and the purpose of the run.
I have an under amour lined knit hat with a brim - I think a brim is a must, since the sun is still out.
I have also cut toes off DH's old tube socks and used them as arm warmers - I find them more comforatable than the fancy, compression, arm warmers, but some people chafe from that. I do like the leg compression socks.

Thank you both for your replies! I never even heard of Nike coldgear--definitely going to check it out and I love the tube **** arm warmer idea--so creative!

Re: outdoor runners: what do you wear in the cold weather?
I don't run outside that much in the winter... just races, I run on treadmill the majority of the time. I just wear lots of slim layers. If its really cold I will layer spandex tights under my pants. I was thinking about buying a running jacket since I am signed up for the winter run series. My body always warms up once I get started, but socks, gloves, and ear covers are a MUST for me.

I have most issues with my hands, so definitely gloves. And hat. If it's 30-40 degrees, just a base layer(short or long sleeves depending on temp) and outer light wind/water resistant jacket. If it's below 30, then I might add a middle layer that is heavier. I LOVE my running jackets, they are reflective and light enough when it's warmer out, but also make a great outer layer when it's freezing.
