Over the counter Prenatal Vitamins vs. The Brand Name Ones
Are you taking over the counter prenatal vitamins, if so which one?
I'm upset that my insurance is hardly covering my prescriped prenatals that I took when carrying my first DC. My old insurance only charged me $20 for it, I can't afford $40 with this new insurance. When I called my insurance the woman basically said to me that they are not covered because I can simply take the over the counter ones.
So I'm looking for an alternative here. Please recommend your over the counter vitamins please.
On a different prescription I also asked my dr to prescripe privolec(sp?) for heart burn and that was going to cost me $50 a month with no alternative as per insurance! I declined both of them at the pharmacy, $100 is just way too much for me to be paying monthly.

I used Target Store Brand Prenatals and they were a'ok plus I think it was like $8 for a large bottle.
As far as prilisec, isn't that too available over-the-counter as well?

Ooopsy I meant to post this in the Pregnancy Forum.
I've been reading that the Target ones are just as good too. I'll be asking my doctor next week about OTC. Maybe she can give more free samples. I'm always embarrased to ask for them straight out.

That's what my mom said but I guess it's a different strength for pregnant women that can only be prescibed? Not sure will basking dr that too.

I feel you - my OB did not want me taking the over the counter saying that they don't have enough folic acid and other vitamins are not the same.
I was paying $50 a month so I feel your pain. However, I just found out about 1-2 months ago that Duet prenatal with DHA comes in GENERIC!!!!! So I switched to the generic ones - they are not $10 a month!!! They are the same ingredients that the Duet had. BTW they are called Pruet DHA.

When I was pregnant with DS, I used to take the CVS brand prenatals. As for the heartburn issue, my OB made me stop my meds and wouldn't allow prilosec. Each OB has different rules about what they allow/not allow. I was allowed to take Zantac twice a day (OTC), but I opted to keep popping TUMS.
