Overnight potty training
So Jordana is 100% potty trained during the day. So we are tackling night time.
I know to try to get her to pee before bed. I know the reward system. I am trying to limit liquids at night, but she drinks with dinner. But after that- it will be no more drinks and I'll wait until she pees before bed.
I know I have to take away her water cup at night, which is going to be hard. She is very dependent on it.
What else do I need to do? Tips would be great!!

Re: Overnight potty training
I have a 5 year old who still wears a pullup at night and my 3 year old still wets at night also. I've tried everything. Everything I've read and have been told is that kids develop overnight training according to their bodies. I limit water, they go right before bed and still wake up with a wet pullup. The connection between their bladder control and brain may not be fully developed in conjunction with being a very deep sleeper.
So, any tips would also help me!

Re: Overnight potty training
DS is also still wearing a pull up at night. He has his last drink right after dinner(he doesn't get a drink with dinner). He does go to the bathroom right before bed and sometimes he wakes up to go and other times he doesn't.

Re: Overnight potty training
I believe they will do it when they are physically ready. Kaitee was around 32 months old and Brooke just did a few weeks ago around 26 months old when they became night potty trained. We didn't do anything to help it along, they just started to wake up dry on their own. They still both take cups of water to bed at night. I think my oldest sometimes gets up and goes at night. But my almost 27 month old still needs my help to get onto the potty so I know she doesn't go until I get her in the morning.

Re: Overnight potty training
My son was 5 1/2 years old when he stopped wearing a pull up at night. Sara will be 4 next month and still is in a pull up. Even if she goes to the bathroom and does not drink she still is wet. She wakes up every night about 2AM and asks me to change her pull up. It is very hard. I think it just a time factor.
I would love help on this too

Re: Overnight potty training
My two year old just started waking up dry. That's how we knew it was time. We did not cut back on any drinks or change anything.
My five year old (nearly 6) still wears nightime pullups. He is just not ready. Poor kid, his baby sister nolonger needs pullups and he still does, hopefully soon. His ped said they start to worry about nightime wetting until 6.
I thinki putting her on the potty at night is a good start, but after that you just have to wait and see

Re: Overnight potty training
Truth is, our pediatrician told us that you can't really "train" for nightime, and that it really is just when the child is ready, physically. Some are ready earlier, while others it may take years. And if you try to early, when they aren't physically ready, it can cause regression, even for the daytime training.
He told us not to even try until she woke up for at least 3-4 weeks with consistently dry diapers/overnights - that was the best indicator that she was physically ready for it

I too have been going through this w/my 5 year old. I finally just said, that's it, pull ups are gone. I went and bought bed pads from the pharmacy and put them under her sheets so in case she does have an accident, I don't have to do the mattress pad etc. I stop her fluids at 6:30. I have her go potty at least 3 times before going to bed. I then wake her up around 10:00 and make her walk to the bathrooom, and she'll go, again around midnight and then she's pretty much good to go for the night. It's annoying but it seems to be working. Last night she thought she wet the bed but she started to pee and woke herself up and was able to control it and ran to the bathroom. My doctor said I shouldn't be concerned about it until she's 8 years old however, I was so bothered by it. (Don't know why but I was because my 3 year old went from diapers to underwear and never looked back). So it is a developmental thing but I felt that I was hindering it for so long and somewhat getting lazy by not pursuing it to get her out of them. So far it's working, yes it's a little involved but for me, it's helping her. Sorry for so long

Re: Overnight potty training
Miki was night potty trained about 3 months after she was day trained....I agree with ABC that they will do it when they are ready
we limit her liquid intake about 1 hour before bed...she ALWAYS goes potty right before bed...we also have her little potty seat in her room just in case she has to go over night or early in the am...but she rarely uses it
throw down a waterproof mattress and see what happens....
