Ovulation, or lack thereof

This is my third month off of the pill. The last two months I had been testing my ovulation with the good old pee stick. Not once did I get a positive. I just figured that I wasn't testing at the right time, or that the sticks were just not working for me. This month I splurged and bought the CBE digital test. Today is day 18 and the test is showing no signs of ovulation. Is it too soon to contact my doctor about this or should I wait one more month?

Keep testing. I was/am? a late ovulator on a regular cycle, you may just O later than you think. If you don't get a positive at all, I would probably put a call in to the Dr. and just let them know what's going on. Have you gotten AF regularly?

The first period off of the pill came on day 32 and lasted 5 days. The second period off of the pill came between day 33 and 34 and was very heavy lasting only 2 days. I'm thinking I may be a late ovulator.

Definitely a possibility. Like I said, I would continue testing and see if you ovulate in the next week or so. You could also be having a longer cycle this month, like I seem to be. Chat Icon

it is a possibility that you won't be ovulating right after coming off the pill.

I was one of the lucky few - i started ovulating a month after taking my last pill.

A close friend of mine was not. It took her 8 months to ovulate after coming off of her pill.

Everyone is different....so it's hard to estimate...

Are you using the test at the right times, etc??? After a hold and between the hours of 2:00 and 8:00?

The digital display tells you what days to test and the directions say to use the first urine of the day. So far I've been testing from day 10 onwards.

I started at day 10 with DS and got all negatives, I was also worried I wasn't ovulating. So I went and nought another kit and then I O'd.

Although the tests recommend that, it's really better to test between 2 and 8 pm.

Our bodies synthesize LH during the day, so it likely won't show up in your urine until the late afternoon.

I tested with FMU one cycle and only got 1 +OPK instead of the normal 2 that I get now - and it was a crazy cycle!

Like Jess said, you may not be ovulating or may be ovulating very late. It takes the body some time to adjust after coming off bcp.

What do you mean by "pee sticks?"

I'm using the $100+ Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor. You put the stick in the monitor and it tells you if you are ovulating.

To me pee sticks would be the simple test where you pee on a stick and the stick tells you whether you are ovulating.

See pics below.

OH! Okay, I understand now.

We usually call the fertility monitor the CBEFM (Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor) and the ovulation predictors - OPKs. The ovulation predictors come in regular and digitals, and most people call the digital ones the CBE digitals.

Now that we've cleared that up...

How long have you been using the CBEFM?

Nevermind - I just read your first post again.

Okay, so this is your first month using the monitor, right?

It is to be expected that the monitor is just getting used to your body - this will take 2-3 months.

In the first month, some people will NEVER get a peak reading. Others will go right from low to peak. And others will have some low, some high, and some peak.

If you're interested, I can look back at my first few months on the CBEFM and tell you how many low and high days I got before my peak.

Sorry about the confusion. I'm not on here that often so I don't have all the lingo down. Thanks for the input. I'll keep testing and hoping for the best.

Are you still getting low readings right now?

Also, in your first month - the monitor will start asking you for test sticks on CD 6. Did yours not do that?

(And you DO use FMU with the monitor! Sorry for that confusion!)

It asked for the first stick on day 6 and I've been getting low readings ever since. Today is day 18.

Okay, I just wasn't sure because you said

If your cycles are averaging 31-33 days, and you have a normal LP - you'd probably expect to be ovulating today or tomorrow.

It's possible that you have a shorter LP and will be ovulating in the next few days (can go straight from low to peak) - or it's possible that either you won't ovulate this month or that the CBEFM will not detect ovulation this month.

Best of luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think I am in the "long cycle club" with you this month! I am on day 38 and all BFN's and no AF. Chat Icon
