Pacifiers?
I'm just wondering how many of you use pacifiers. We use them ocasionally but I always said I would never use them. I just feel likes ometimes we need to use them for a few minutes while we're getting her food ready or something like that.
So i'm wondering how many people use them -- and for those with toddlers -- at what age did your child stop using them -- and was it an easy stop?

Re: Pacifiers?
I voted sometimes because Miranda rarely will take it. I wish she would though because its supposed to help reflux babies because it produces saliva which is alkaline and helps neutralize the acid that comes up in their throats.

Re: Pacifiers?
Sometimes but it used to be more often... then he started sucking his thumb. I kinda wish he would have stuck with the pacifier instead...it's so much easier to wean them off of later! Now I'm worried he'll be sucking his thumb until he's in school!!

Re: Pacifiers?
Before Jack was born I was 100% anti-pacifier. Then when he was about 3 weeks old he would not stop crying unless he would **** on my finger. So we got him a pacifier and it was exactly what he needed. Luckily for us, by 5 months old he totally lost interest and just spit it out one day and never went back.

Re: Pacifiers?
I let Talia decide - it def. tends to relax her and she falls asleep faster with it. I guess I offer it to her often - but she only takes it once and a while - and not for long.

Re: Pacifiers?
We give it to him all the time. It's amazing to see how much it calms him. He could be all figgity and whiny and as soon as we give it to him he calms down. He recently realized he has a tongue though and now he likes to put on the block with his tongue so it's hard to get it in his mouth .

I wasn't sure how to answer - we used it all the time until she was 4.5 months. Now she won't take one.

Re: Pacifiers?
We use it mostly for Jake when he is going to go to sleep. He will almost be a year so I want to try to wean him off of it soon. It has been a big lifesaver to us.

Re: Pacifiers?
I voted never b/c Sarah hated them even though I wanted her to take it rather than her thumb. We tried every one on the market but she preferred her thumb.

Re: Pacifiers?
I voted often-
Ryan like his binky- I always give it to him at night ( in light of the recent SIDS studies)
and whenever hes cranky- if he wants it...he gets it!

Re: Pacifiers?
We give it to him whenever he gets cranky/fussy and when he goes to sleep. Sometimes, he'll spit it out during his sleep. But when he doesn't want it, he'll take it out and drop it.

Re: Pacifiers?
Ava loves her pacifier......Before we had her we were very "Anti-Pacifier" until one night she would not stop crying...so we offered it to her and she hasn't stopped sucking ever since. It definitely helps calm her and put her to sleep at night and when she doesn't want it she just spits it out!

Re: Pacifiers?
I was ALWAYS anti-pacifier, Jordan never wanted it, and he didn't need it, he was a very easy baby! I didn't want to try it with Mallory until one night she was very cranky, we gave her a pacifier and it made her calm down, we have used it ever since.... she uses it to fall asleep and if she's a little fussy in the car....other than that we don't need it. Sucking is VERY calming for babies, it's just a natural thing..... I don't want her to be too old and still using it though so we plan on phasing it out pretty soon, although she's kinda starting to do it herself. It's been a lifesaver.

Re: Pacifiers?
My daughter was addicted to her 'binkers' in the beginning but now she doesn't take it at all. She started refusing it on her own and I am not arguing, it's a habit I don't want to have to break later.

Re: Pacifiers?
I voted sometimes...as a soon to be mom, I will probably try to use it when I need to...but, who knows...maybe the baby won't like it or will love it so much I'll have to change my answer to ALWAYS!!!
I just hope it's not too hard to try to wean the baby off the pacifier...

Re: Pacifiers?
Nick has always LOVED the pacifier - but he is 13 months now and seems to want it more than ever! I am not sure what to do....he still only has his 2 bottom teeth, and whenever it seems like his gums hurt he wants the pacifier...so I don't want to take it away knowing it might help him. As soon as he gets some more teeth, I am going to take it away. I dread it though.

Re: Pacifiers?
Before Alex was born I was 100% anti pacifier. After about 3 weeks I finally broke down and gave it to him. I only used it for sleeping. I took it away at 4 months and the first few days of going to sleep were hard, but now he doesn't even miss it.

Have you tried that mesh bag where you can put a piece of frozen fruit into it? it's supposed to be great for teething and the handle is kinda similar to the ones on pacifiers -- maybe that can be his "teething" pacifier and it can help to wean him off of it!

Re: Pacifiers?
Marissa never really used them as an infant but when she was a bout 4months she started using them theyhelped her with teething but now she is a year and she only uses it to go to sleep at nite as soon as she wakes up in the morning she spits it out and if she doesn't fall asleep while drinking her sippy cup then she will get ehr binky and fall asleep with that. So I can't really complain about that

Re: Pacifiers?
I hate them! My sisters kids use them and her daughter is turning 3 soon and she still use's one I think it looks so silly. My daughter has a little blanket that she holds when shes fussy and that seems to please her....ThankGod! I think its just so hard to make them stop using one once you start. JMO
