pacifiers recommended for breastfeeding moms?

hey everyone,

we went to a baby care class yesterday and were told that if you are breastfeeding, the recommended pacifiers are the ones that look/feel more like an actual breast nipple. but i'm looking online on the BRU website and i'm not seeing them?

does anyone know which brands/stores carry these?

thanks!!!! Chat Icon

Not sure, but I heard the one that the hospitals use are called "soothies". They definately have those at BBB and BRU.

i bf my daughter and gave her the gerber nuk. she didnt have nipple confusion. my hospital gave her the gerber ones from the beginning so i stuck with it. never had a problem with latching or a problem with her taking a bottle either. the breastfeeding class and books i read never told us their was a specific one to use.

In case you're wondering...you can pick up soothies at BRU, but Target and Walmart also carry them....plus a lot of hospitals will give them to you if you ask (and they have them) That's how we got hooked....the only pacifier she liked in the beginning was her soothie.

I think it depends on your baby - my daughter doesn't like the soothies - they won't stay in her mouth so I had to hold it in for her - and she still didn't like them. She uses the MAM pacifiers- orthdontics one - I don't know if it is one that is recommended but it is the one that they give us at the hospital (Columbia) and they recommended that we use. DD is only breast feed and she never had any nipple confusion.

I would suggest maybe getting two or three kinds and then letting your baby decide which one they like the best.

Re: pacifiers recommended for breastfeeding moms?

I use the soothies. DS did not like the "wider" one. He was gagging on them.

He likes the soothies.

You can find them at Target too.

So far I have Avent, Soothies and I think that's it. I think I will pick up Nuk and Mam just to be sure.
