Pack n Play for sleeping Q

Hi,
I have a baby trend pack 'n play or whatever they are called - I got it from a friend and have never used it. My sister is coming to visit with her 20 month old boy who is pretty sturdy for his age and I thought he could use this to sleep in. The problem is that I have just taken it out of storage and it looks so small and uncomfortable to me It only measures 3 ft long by 2 ft wide and the mattress that is in it seems very hard.

If I buy another mattress do you think it will work or am I being unrealistic. As I said I have never used it so dont even know how long you are supposed to use these things for.

Anyone use them and am I just being an overanxious auntie

My son took naps it the pack n play until he was almost 3 years old . He actually liked it
