Pack n Play vs. Travel Lite Crib or another option?

We are still working on the baby's nursery. It has been a long process because the room needed to be completely repurposed and it clearly won't be ready when I deliver the baby on Monday...

So our plan was to have the baby in the room with us anyway for the first few months. I don't want to set the crib up in our room. We don't have the space for it and I also don't want to do something perminant because I want my DH to have the push to finish up the nursery.

We planned on using a pack n play in our room until the nursery is ready. My sister had one that she never used --- and she promised us she would lend it to us.

She gave it to me 2 weeks ago and silly me didn't take it all apart to set it up. I had set one up before and didn't think I needed to do it a few weeks ago. Tonight I took it apart and all that is there is the basic pack n play itself --- not the pieces to raise the mattress board, not the pieces for the bassinnet, changing table, or other accessories. I looked up the model number online and it did have all of the bells and whistles, but all that is there is the basic pack n play.

My sister lives an hour away and I spoke with her on the phone and she already expressed to me that she won't be able to go back into her attic to look for the rest of it for a while ---

Obviously we can't put a newborn baby down into the bottom of a basic pack n play. We do have the bouncer, travel swing that we can use...

Should I just go and buy another pack n play?

Should I buy a travel lite crib, and we can keep this pack n play for when the baby is bigger?

Should I buy the Rock n Play Sleeper?

Or a regular bassinnet?

We need something ASAP for the baby to sleep in our room when he or she comes home which will be Thursday. My c-section is Monday morning!

My DS loves the rock and play and it was only about $45. I would try that first since its cheap and it cradles them so I think many babies like it.

My DD1 only slept in the bouncer for the first 4 weeks or so...and we do have a bouncer all set to go for this baby. Do you think the rock and play is really all that much better then the bouncer? With DD I didn't worry becuase the crib was set up and ready to go..and at 4 weeks we transitioned her to the crib and she did beautifully ... but I know it is going to take DH more then 4 weeks to finish up this baby's room!

Another vote for the Rock n Play Sleeper! I love that thing and so does everyone else I know that has used it.

I guess in your situation I would go with the rock n play. We don't have one and DC will be sleeping in the pnp (but we have the bassinet part of it). I am so weary of the rock n play, because I am afraid of the baby getting used to sleeping like that and not doing well in the crib.

Good luck to you!!

DS slept in the Rock and Play for 6 months! It was great (at first) because we live in a small 1920's bungalow, so there is no master, it's the "bigger" of the rooms. The rock and play folds almost flat and slides right under the bed. Bam...we had our room back, couldn't even tell we shared it with a baby. Then, when I went into the living room I would grab the rock and play and bring it in with me when he was still sleeping or move him to the swing.

Down side..DS wouldn't move to the crib. We tried everything, he loved being hugged and snuggled from the rock and play and he still has issues sleeping in his own bed at 19 months. It's been a nightmare.

I would say go with the rock and play if you know that your DH will get the nursery ready within two months or so. That way, you get the cosleeping and the time for the nursery to be finished without the baby getting used to sleeping in it and be able to switch to the crib.

Re: Pack n Play vs. Travel Lite Crib or another option?

I used the pack n play in our room for the first 5 months. First we just used the bassinet portion and than we used just the regular part of the pack n play. After the I put dd in her crib. After that once dd was sitting I'd put her in it in our livng room and she would play in there.

We had a bassinet we bought from a 2nd hand store for $60 that vibrted, had music, a light and a mobile THE BEST $60 we spent! I LOVED our bassinet and so did he! I also think it made transitioning to his crib much much easier since he was laying flat the whole time and never had to adjust to going flat from an incline. I can not rave about a bassinet enough!!!!!!! My only regret was when we got home I was still recovering from a c-section, I was only in 2 nights and 2 days, so I could not get in and out of bed. He slept in his swing, I know I know bad mommy, and refused the bassinet until he was almost 2 months oldChat Icon Once we put our foot down and started his bedtime routine he slept in the bassinet and it was majicalChat Icon My suggestion is do the bassinet or whatever you choose right away and don't give in to the most convienent place for baby to sleep. After 2 months of sleeping on the couch I was exhausted and missed my bed and sleeping next to my husband. Good Luck!

Re: Pack n Play vs. Travel Lite Crib or another option?

we used the travel lite crib for DD's first few months. It was great. We have a 1 floor condo and it fit in our room, and was narrow enough to go through doorways, so we would take her from room to room with us in the crib -it has wheels. Loved it!
