Paging all techy ladies (pic related)
I have a picture saved on my desktop as .bmp. I want to turn it into a .jpg or similar to be able to upload to like shutterfly or Kodak. But just changing the .xxx won't upload. How can i do that? Can it be done?? Thanks!!

i have been told that you can open it in MS Paint and then save it as a .gif or .jpg (never tried it though)

The three letter extension is just part of the name, it has no inherent meaning. It just makes it easier for programs to try and figure out what to do with them. You have to actually convert the file to the different format.
It's similar to having a book written in Spanish. Just changing the cover of the book to English won't change the book inside. You have to convert the Spanish Book to English.
I usually use Paint for .bmp, .gif, and .jpg conversions also.

If you have Windows (any version), you have it built-in as part of the OS.
Click <Start>, then click on "Run..."
type "mspaint" and press <ENTER>

Thanks GoldenRod!!! I found the program but when I opened the picture in it and saved it as jpg or gif it still won't upload! Mother&*&*&! lolll

Right click on the picture and choose "open with"
then choose Microsoft Picture Manager (should be standard with Windows)
When it opens, click "file" then choose "export"...
There will be a drop down list on the right that says "export in this format"...change it to .jpg and save...it will convert it to a jpeg file..
