Paint Sample and gallon color aren't matching???
We picked up a few samples of BM paint colors (the smaller containers the place mixes for you, not the premixed types)
We found one we liked and DH had them make a gallon. He has been using the sample to cut in. Now he opened the gallon and started to paint and the color is really different.
The labels and numbers match to show they are the same color. anyone have this problem?
The only other thing we can think of is that the gallon has been sitting in the garage, so it's really cold. Could that affect the color?

Is it the same finish?
If so, I would take it back and have them remix it. Show them the difference between the sample and the gallon. They should do it at no charge.

Re: Paint Sample and gallon color aren't matching???
Ok it is def the wrong color in the sample. The gallon matched the card. DH is not happy and he put some of the gallon into the sample so we can't even match the color. Another sample we got is close so Im going to return the gallon and get the new color.
Van cortland was what we thought the sample was. Now seeing the true color is more gray than we wanted.
The color that is close to the sample is providence blue.
This is becoming a bigger project than it should have been

Re: Paint Sample and gallon color aren't matching???
The paint formula is usually designed for gallon cans and when you get pints or smaller sizes, the computer and dispensing system can't deal with fractions of colorants very well. That is why I prefer to use the premixed colors as I think they would be made in big batches and dispensed. Also, the color can look very different on a small test area vs a whole wall. When you put a small area of paint, your eye reads the paint in combination with the surrounding paint! I recently started painting large poster boards with a white border all around for testing samples. Getting the color right is hard but at least its cheaper to change it now rather than later!
